This is an odd article because not only is it possible to agree with the conclusion without agreeing with the title, it is possible to point to an analogous situation that in fact requires *rejecting* the analogous title (Mamdani does *not* need MAGA). www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Public health must recognize there is opportunity in entropy. The path forward for the field is simple, but requires public health to do something it has been reluctant to do: Show up. Visibly. Politically, but not in a partisan way. There are fights that are strongly supported by both sides, including air quality in neighborhoods sharing zip codes with industrial facilities, lead and toxins in the water kids are drinking, and the poor quality of the food Americans eat and its clear negative impact on our health. These are issues where public health can stand next to communities, name what is harming them, and fight like it means something. What MAHA understands—imperfectly and sometimes dishonestly—is that people do trust institutions, but not because those institutions have good data. They trust them because they feel like those institutions are on their side.

Now the one that troubles me. The California and Arizona Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement, which speaks for the lettuce farms, also posted on July 15. That first version called lettuce a leading suspect, argued that Cyclospora has historically been tied to imported produce rather than domestic greens, and — to its credit — noted plainly that CDC had cut national Cyclospora surveillance in 2025 after federal budget reductions. That last point is mine too; it is the whole reason we cannot count this outbreak. The next day the page was replaced under a different byline with a warmer, more sympathetic message, and both of those lines were gone. The tone improved. But the original now survives only on the Wayback Machine. A statement you have to dig out of an internet archive is not a statement the public can still hold you to.

"God's noble experiment" is a patriotic phrase often used by American politicians, most notably Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, to describe the creation and ongoing evolution of the United States. It refers to America's founding ideals of democracy, freedom, and equality.

Of course, the 1976 bicentennial was not the first major celebration of the Declaration of Independence. A commission was put together in 1826 to commemorate the Declaration’s 50th anniversary, headed by General Roger Chew Weightman, the mayor of the City of Washington. Weightman invited any living signers of the Declaration, including John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, to attend. Both gentlemen replied that their health was too poor for them to travel, and in an odd confluence of events, they passed away within hours of each other that July 4.

From its opening day on May 31, the exposition already faced challenges to its success. The fair opened with a heavy downpour of rain, causing many fairgoers to leave. However, one man, Jacob J. Henderson had been proud to be the first person to enter the fairgrounds at the 9:00 A.M. opening. He stated that he had been to the Centennial with his parents, and did not want to miss opening day of the Sesqui. Within the first hour, it is believed that less than 250 entered the gates of the fairgrounds.[2] The fair drew a much smaller crowd than anticipated (about 10 million people). Variety dubbed it "America's Greatest Flop" with a loss of $20 million by August 1926.[15] The exposition ended up unable to cover its debts and was placed into receivership in 1927, at which point its assets were sold at auction.[16]

Mortality rates for various forms of cancer, for men and women, from 1930 to 2020. Almost all forms slope downward at various rates, the small exception being a few for men that are mostly flat then dip. The big exception is lung cancer, which climbs like a rollercoaster, peaks, and drops like a rollercoaster. Cigarettes, man.
