Melanie Mark-Shadbolt is a Māori environmentalist working across biosecurity, biodiversity, and emergency management. Her work sits at the frontline of some of Aotearoa NZ’s most pressing environmental challenges, where the stakes are high and the answers are rarely simple.
Andrew Jeffs’ research has shaped fisheries management, marine conservation & mussel reef restoration across Aotearoa. He co-led the world’s largest mussel restoration project, working alongside communities and mana whenua to integrate mātauranga Māori into restoration practice. #NZES_SCBO2026.

More than 300 captive-bred Campbell’s Keeled Glass-Snails have been successfully released back onto Norfolk Island. Several neonate snails have now been observed - a strong indication that the snails are reproducing in the wild. #ConservationOptimism #EarthOptimism
