As a short, pudgy middle-aged nerd, this is about what I’d expect for my morning weigh in. But today, at least, it seems downright celebratory! 🗽🎉🥂 #Happy250
By my side each morning: I recently received this lovely mousepad from the family of Greg Stephens who passed away in April. ZWOL was his webcomic. Greg ran message boards for my work in the early '00s; a kind, smart, and unflinchingly reasonable presence. He'll be much missed. Rest in Peace. 🤍
Came across this ratty, low res panel from ep #1 of my Morning Improv webcomic, posted 25 years ago. Ahh, those were the days...
Self-imposed traditions department: Whenever I see a Louise Nevelson sculpture in the wild, I try to get a selfie with it, so here’s today’s entry! #nevelselfie
Attn: Hirshhorn Museum: Ahem. No disrespect to Robert Irwin, but that quote is widely attributed to French poet Paul Valéry. 🧐 #yesiamthatguy Good quote, just the same.
⭐️ This Saturday, May 9th!! ⭐️ 🏛️ The Library of Congress! 📚 Join Raina and Me in Washington, D.C.! [sorry for earlier post saying "sunday"—whoopsies! 🫣]
Always loved this series of maps. 👁 Also: Comics! h/t @anuncivilphd.bsky.social & @iansociologo.bsky.social
Panel by Shotaro Ishinomori (I assume—maybe from the '60s!) posted by @thebulbmin.bsky.social in reference to the "would you have listened to me..." meme. (not allowing quote-posts for some reason) Can anyone translate the text? Or even better, post and translate the page(s) it appeared in?
NSFW—But fascinating! New Delhi-based trans artist Shubnam sent me a link to her 2018 digital comic (on Behance) titled "Sediments". It includes some daring expressionistic passages and wild uses of both color and typography—in three languages, no less! (translation at bottom of each frame). 1/3
I don't know how many people know *both* these albums well, but nothing better sums up my values as a barely-adult music fan/struggling artist in the early '80s than the fact that I had pirated both on either side of a C-90 cassette and nearly always listened to both albums back to back.
OH! Hmm... Look at that! It seems I'm not the only one who is frustrated. The artist herself just posted this recently. 🤔
Designers not knowing how contrast affects figure ground is like doctors not knowing that skin goes on the outside.
