Scotland Women's Rugby Stories
@scotwomensrugby
A random fan account trying to bring together stories about the Scotland women's rugby team (once I figure how to use this app!)
Fab news from Edinburgh Rugby who have appointed Louise Dalgliesh as their new head coach (on the women's side before any Edinburgh men's fans get too excited). More info here: edinburghrugby.org/news-and-fea...
Louise McMillan has announced her international retirement after winning 61 caps, the last in this year's W6N. An amazing servant to the Scotland shirt
Glasgow Warriors have appointed former Scotland 7s and men's team player, Robbie Fergusson, as their new head coach. He's, erm, pretty early in his coaching career but has coached in the GB7s women's set up. He'll also be an assistant for Scotland during WXV glasgowwarriors.org/news-and-fea...
Scots in action this weekend: Emma Wassell starts for Ealing in the PWR final, with Rachel Malcolm returning from injury to the bench. Caity Mattinson, CB, Sarah Bonar and Jenny Maxwell are in the Barbarians 23 v Wales. RugbyPass have an interview with Maxwell www.rugbypass.com/news/it-feel...
Emma Orr is Edinburgh's final signing of this week 🥳🔥 She'll be likely rehabbing for a good chunk of the season but hopefully we'll see her in the new year at some point!
Meanwhile, lifelong Glasgow fan Anne Young will be turning out in the Warriors blue and black next season
Lucia Scott is the latest addition to the Warriors as she signs for Glasgow
My personal opinion is that (regardless of gender), committing a serious crime like domestic violence should preclude someone from being selected to represent their country in a team sport. So I was really disappointed to see GB7s have selected Hannah Bluck in their squad announced today.
Two changes for the Scotland starting XV. Fran McGhie is absent and Emily Couborough swaps places with Holland Bogan. Campbell is back in the starting line up and Coreen Grant joins the bench. Had seen a report Alex Stewart could be back but not to be. Full details scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
Ireland and Scotland will contest the Siobhan Cattigan trophy on Sunday, finally resolving the horrendous confusion last year. And at least it will be in front of over 30,000 people. Full details about the trophy here: scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
And the full W6N 2027 fixture list for anyone who needs it!
Scotland have announced their WXV Global Series and 2027 W6N fixtures (no KO times for the former). Canada, Black Ferns and Wallaroos at home plus two tests in Oz. For the first time in ages, we don't play Wales first and Ireland last (it's reversed) Full details scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
Not feeling super positive that Rachel Malcolm will be back on Sunday, from a reel posted by Scottish Rugby yesterday
Scottish Rugby has confirmed that tomorrow's match represents Scotland's 250th international test match
Scotland u21s team for their match v Italy at the Hive on Sunday. Ceitidh Ainsworth starts at 9 with Rianna Darroch on the bench after her appearances for the senior team. Full details here: scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
A postbox near me has a special topper knitted for the Women's Six Nations featuring Capt Dr Rachel Malcolm and it's so fab. I actually took the photos a couple of weeks ago and forgot to post but today I saw someone lifting their daughter or granddaughter up so they could see it properly, so cute 🥺
A random election day comment, only one of the main parties' manifesto has a specific mention of women's rugby (as far as I can see). But only women's rugby..... Anyway remember to vote, whoever you are voting for, if you haven't already!
Trying not to get too freaked out. Looks like Lana is injured. No specialist back rows starting although at least we're starting two actual centres. Congrats to Holland Bogan and Rachel Phillips on first starts and Aicha Sutcliffe on a poss debut. Full details here scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
There could surely only be one choice and Molly Poolman's addition to the list of Great Prop Tries has been voted try of the round for round 3 of W6N
Lisa Thomson is back in the Scotland squad (yay) but confirmed that Rachel McLachlan and Hannah Walker join Evie Wills in missing the rest of the tournament. The article says replacements from the centralised training programme will be announced in due course 🤷♀️ scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
If Wikipedia is correct, Saturday's match against France will be Scotland's 250th international test match 🥳🥳🥳
Scotland u21s are in France this weekend. Like the England match, some in different positions to Celtic Challenge - Haddow at 14 and Smyth at 15 (rather than vice versa), Mellanby at 10, Russell/ Thomson at lock, Ainsworth replacement scrum half. Full details here: scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
Captain Doctor Rachel Malcolm is out of the match later due to injury 🤕😭😭. Alex Stewart now starts at 7 with Rachel McLachlan moving to 8 and Becky Boyd coming onto the bench. Lana Skeldon captains. (Not sure why it isn't vice captain Helen Nelson?)
Rhona Lloyd's try against England has been voted try of round 2 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Several changes to the Scotland team. McGhie and McLachlan return to the starting line up, a first start for Demi Swann. Malcolm moves to 8, Donaldson in at 6. Scott starts at 13 (!). First appearances of the tournament for McMillan and Phillips Full details: scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
I've not seen an announcement (although could have missed it( and the link in the app doesn't work but this advert in the Scottish Rugby ticket app suggests that we will be hosting Canada, the Black Ferns and the Wallaroos later this year 👀👀👀🤩🤩🤩🤩
Ahead of the big match at Murrayfield, Scotland u21s will take on England at the Hive. Megan Hyland will captain the team, with Poppy Mellanby given the reins at 10. Full details at this link scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
ICYMI, one change to the Scotland starting XV, with Evie Wills replacing Emma Orr. Fran McGhie and Rachel McLachlan have been added to the bench, returning from injury, with Eva Donaldson dropping out the match day squad. Full details here: scottishrugby.org/news-and-fea...
And on the oh FFS side of Scotland news, knew it was probably coming but Emma Orr is out of the rest of W6N, such a huge loss in both attack and defence. Hopefully back soon but was so looking forward to seeing as much as possible of that Bristol midfield link with Smith on the international stage
