Watched RADIOLAND MURDERS, didn't love, then discovered that, had STAR WARS not blown up, we'd have had a different version 20 years earlier. Imagine a pure Willard Huyck & Gloria Katz script at the same time they did MESSIAH OF EVIL: Maybe it'd still be a mess, but it'd be a more interesting one!

FYI I’m against bootlegs outside of nonsense like this. The last time I indulged was the get an “uncut” copy of THE DEVILS, and I’m really looking forward to getting rid of it for the sweet ass official 4k release. I swear!!

Love that I’m currently haggling for a bootleg of THE VAST OF NIGHT, which became one of my favorite and most rewatched films after seeing it at Fantastic Fest, since it’s been pulled it from prime, its sole outlet. Too many assholes are in charge of too many things.

Thank you all so much for the sympathy. The wonderful @fakeeyes.bsky.social was a member in good standing in the Squints Fan Club, and his genius drawings of him perfectly captured what a sweet doofus wonderboy Squints was.

My sweet baby boy Squints had to be suddenly put down today. Only the grief feels real.

Squints is now reunited with his beloved MCCLOUD.

The handsomest, sweetie boy in his tubby stage.

He loved hugs. Squints was 80% teddy bear and 20% chill, sweet, funny, brave, wonderful cat.

#Junesploitation Day 22: Revenge! DEATH FORCE is also known as "Vengeance Is Mine" & "Fighting Mad," so I knew it'd be the perfect pick. GREAT cast, and it has so much fun with the training/revenge tropes that it still, somehow, feels completely fresh. That ending, though? Excuse me.

Here’s to a safe & happy Juneteenth & Black filmmaker-focused #Junesploitation! I started with a rewatch of Carl Franklin’s wonderful DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS, this time with his commentary, which I cannot recommend enough. I stuck with Franklin with ONE FALSE MOVE, which was harrowing and brilliant.

Indicator’s release of Devil in a Blue Dress is buffeted by some Black filmmaker box sets: Criterion’s Melvin Van Peebles & Vinegar Syndrome’s Rudy Ray Moore collections. Franklin mentioned that he saw DEVIL as sort of a western, which really framed the film in an interesting way this rewatch.

Day 18 of #Junesploitation is for Mr. Piercing Eyes himself, Franco Nero! I went with STREET LAW. It turned out to be a great choice, as Nero is pretty much put through the emotional Olympics in this film: He really gets to be vulnerable. Great ending, too.

1990’s The Last Island, which I very highly recommend.

Licenses to Drive had been coming up in random places, so I decided on a rewatch. It remains hopelessly charming, and I am kn love with Carol Kane in every role.
