A year ago, Haze arrived at our shelter under heartbreaking circumstances. Her owner Ana was in a car accident and fell into a coma, separating them. But a year, Ana was browsing our website when a familiar face stopped her in her tracks. It was Haze! She reached out they were reunited!

Congratulations to the Class of 2026... the raccoon class, that is! These three orphaned raccoons are the very first graduates of the new raccoon nursery at our Ramona Wildlife Center! They were released together where they can continue life as wild raccoons, just as they were meant to.

When you find five young lodgepole chipmunks in your camper van, it comes as quite the surprise! After discovering these tiny passengers and not finding a parent nearby, a community member brought them to us for care.

Opossums are one of the most beneficial yet misunderstood animals in our communities. Despite a common misconception, it's extremely rare for them to carry rabies due to their naturally low body temperature. They also act as nature's cleanup crew feeding on insects, carrion and ticks!

When a snowy plover was found with a wound on their leg they were brought to us for care. Our wildlife vets performed radiographs to assess the injury. Luckily there were no signs of infection so we began pain medication & gave them a safe place to recover. After 17 days they were released back home

After adopting from us, Dempsey & her sister, Scotland, decided their love for shelter animals wasn’t stopping with their new pet! These compassionate kids created posters & passed out flyers at Crown Point Junior Music Academy encouraging fellow students to donate and give back to animals in need!

This calls for a very big celebration: After more than 500 days, our beloved Mullet has officially been adopted! Her new mom shares: “I was honored to adopt Baby Girl aka Mullet. She’s a wonderful girl — so loving, smart and curious. Thank you to everyone who took care of her until I could.”

We are thrilled to share that after about two months in our care, the bear cubs from Monrovia are moving to an outdoor habitat at our Ramona Wildlife Center! This marks an exciting milestone in their rehabilitation journey and is the next step towards preparing for a return to the wild.

This morning, our team began a mass rescue operation at an animal sanctuary in Julian. Our Humane Law Enforcement officers, alongside the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, served a search warrant and are on-site caring for animals. AB 2010 (the SNIP Act) has passed out of the Assembly Business & Professions Committee — bringing us closer to expanding access to high-quality spay and neuter services statewide. By removing barriers while maintaining standards, this legislation helps address pet overpopulation at its source.

This National Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week, we’re proud to recognize the dedication, compassion and courage of our incredible Humane Law Enforcement team. Because of them, 40 dogs living in a 500-square-foot apartment in unsanitary conditions got a second chance at life!

Our team completed several successful renestings of great horned owlets, giving these babies a second chance to grow up wild with their families! Thank you to our Renest & Reunite team for coordinating and West Coast Arborists for helping us place these babies back into the wild!

Our team has had their hands full with great horned owl babies — 16 in just 10 days! Our team suspects the recent heat may have caused some of these babies to fall from their nests prematurely. They’re now receiving specialized treatment and rehabilitation until they’re ready to return to the wild!

Right now, a pair of male black bear cubs is safe and receiving care at our Ramona Wildlife Center! Our skilled team of wildlife veterinarians performed a comprehensive exam and found the brothers to be in good health. Because they’re so young, they’ll need months of extensive care.
