#Antarctic #SeaIce is now the second-lowest level among the years shown for this date. 🌍🧊🛰️🌊
The persistent polynya along the flanks of Maud Rise indicates weak stratification and availability of subsurface heat. #Antarctica #SeaIce #Ocean 🌊🛰️🌍🧊❄️
A patch of open water around Maud Rise sea mount is proving stubborn to freeze as Antarctic winter sea ice advances. Interesting to watch, but not unprecedented. Open-ocean polynyas have appeared here before, huge in the 1970s and again in 2017. #antarctic #seaice #climate

Stunning and beautiful image from NISAR collected over Antarctica. Taken from the recording of the recent town hall and data webinar. This is a great resource! Congratulations and thanks to ISRO and NASA! youtu.be/7tJJmNg8qyE

The Arctic has just set a new record low for this time of year. As of 26 November 2025, sea ice extent is the lowest on record for the date based on OSI SAF sea ice climate data (1978–2024). Image from @osi-saf.eumetsat.int cryo.met.no/en/sea-ice-i... #Arctic #Climate

Operational processing of the Level-4 (L4) CryoSat-2/Sentinel-3/SMOS (CS3SMOS) sea ice thickness product has been started for the Arctic 2025/26 winter season. The product version has seen a major upgrade from v206 to v300. #Arctic #Climate @esaclimate.bsky.social spaces.awi.de/spaces/CS2SM...

The rapture has just begun at the North Pole! First, there was a slight jitter, and then all the data was lost and remains in space.
We are still about 4 weeks away from the maximum, but it is still worth noting that #Antarctic sea ice has reached its second lowest value for the day since the satellite records began.
#Polynya watch 👀: The sea ice over Maud Rise is thinning. The next days will show if an open water polynya is developing. 🌊 #Antarctic #Seaice #Climate doi.org/10.57780/sm1...
This DOE writing is really absolute crap! I just took a look at it, I wouldn't let a student get away with that. They write about #Arctic sea ice, but link to a plot about #Antarctic sea ice. The cited ref has also not yet been reviewed. Tellingly, the DOE and its authors do not know what a DOI is.
#Antarctic #SeaIce July 2025. One interesting feature is the huge iceberg A23a returning south at about 30 W.
