I just spent a busy hour at Tim Horton’s at 250 Greenbank pitching it at the drive-thru window for Camp Day. Hard-working bunch here! Even my wife was a customer!

This is quite the operation, and they'll be based out of Ward 9. I got a tour of the Disaster Response Unit, which is their base of operations, which got driven in from Hamilton. Tammy showed me some of their impressive setup, where they'll train, equip and deploy volunteers. 2/

Today I got to meet Tammy Suitor, Disaster Relief Manager for Samaritan's Purse Canada. When I called her on Saturday, she was in Calgary. Within a few hours, she was making plans to set up emergency operations in Ottawa, and I'm forever grateful. She's here to help, and she's a professional. 1/

🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Fisher Heights residents: the City's public consultation on the proposed Zena St. / Barlyn Ave. Sidewalk Project kicks off tonight. The proposal includes new sidewalks, upgraded streetlighting, crosswalks & other safety improvements along Zena Street, Barlyn Avenue, and part of Sunnycrest Dr. 1/

Settling in for a late-night work session on the 4th floor of 100 Constellation, where I’ve got the place all to myself. A quiet spot to review the City’s report that came out today on the Canada Day extreme weather event, as I work on a motion to investigate what happened in Ward 9.

I popped in to the Nepean Sportsplex, which has been hosting. Community Info Hub for residents impacted by the July 1 extreme weather event. They’ve got tons of info to help residents. They’ll be back here on Sunday July 12 from 10am - 4pm.

Here's the first outage map that came out from @hydroottawa.bsky.social, but this would indicate a far broader outage than I'm hearing about so far. More info to come.

Compared to what this map looked like two days ago, I wanted to extend a big THANK YOU to Hydro Ottawa for the gargantuan effort of getting power restored not only across Ward 9, but across the City. As of now, the only outage in Ward 9 is a scheduled outage for system repairs. Way to go, Hydro!

Glad to see the outage has decreased from 25K+ residents sooner than expected. Looks like one of the remaining outages is still in the Ward 9 area of Parkwood Hills / Carleton Heights. Let me know if you're in this area and power hasn't been restored.

Bottom line: this is one of the most unique spots in Ottawa right now. I've already spoken to my provincial counterpart @tylerwatt.bsky.social about it, and he's as excited as I am to have something this cool right here in Nepean. Stay tuned for news of Experience Social's grand opening.

What makes this place different: Co-owner Mike Loftus also runs the Canadian Pinball Museum + Pinball Medics (Canada’s top pinball service company). There’s a full on-site repair workshop + parts room, with cabinets filled with every pinball part imaginable. This is why the machines play so well. 3/

I stopped by yesterday to check it out. It's a time machine back to another era, but the kids are as excited as the grown-ups. There's over 75 pinball machines here. Best part 👉 $20 = unlimited play. No coins. No interruptions. Just walk in and play. 2/

And in a clear attempt at election framing, the Mayor quite literally portrayed some of his opponents as believing "that we should make it harder for drivers to get around the city." How is that not divisive? 5/

It’s one thing to acknowledge and attribute responsibility to past decisions; it’s another to suggest today’s challenges are somehow owned solely by others. This term of Council - with Mayor Sutcliffe as its head - hasn’t just inherited problems. It has made choices that shaped where we are now. 2/

Over the past few days, Mayor Sutcliffe has been framing the city’s challenges as something inherited from “previous councils,” while warning against “divisive ideology.” That framing deserves a closer look. 1/

And as I said a few days ago, one enjoyable experience about being on two wheels is the surprise experiences that come when stopping and taking a moment is easier to do. In this case, I got to watch the manual opening of the canal locks.

After a brief but necessary pause in my E-Bike Commuter Challenge, it was good to get back on two wheels yesterday. This day’s ride was a good example of how active transportation can support much more than commuting to work, but also many of life’s critical appointments. 1/

Last night was a great payoff: tables full of people - including Hans Moor - reviewing plans, asking questions, proposing ideas, and covering boards in sticky notes. That kind of engagement is how good city-building happens. It can't be rushed. It certainly can't be pushed aside. 5/
