Risotto with peas bacon and burrata, with steamed green vegetables. Ideal for a winter's evening.
Making pulses, vegetables and fibrous things a regular part of our diet. Tonight that meant roasted pumpkin, brocollini, chickpeas and mograbieh. Flavours from cumin seed, zataar. Simple sauce of yoghurt, tahini, pomegranate and lemon juice. Not the most visual appeal but an easy one pan dinner.
East end parklands also featured some installations, including large fantasy animals. And illuminated robot swans, swimming on the lake. #IlluminateAdelaide
The Botanic Gardens were a backdrop to Might Visions. A series of different illuminations that you walked through. The trees and plants were lit sometimes but less of a "feature" in their own right - unlike Illuminate in Melbourne. #IlluminateAdelaide
More treats from #IlluminateAdelaide this evening. Firstly, the family friendly Pixel Waves in Bonython Hall. Lots of kids here, who were rolling around on the floor, laughing and generally having a fine time whenever the illuminations changed.
Another brief clip from Digital Abyss last night. There's also a number of lighting installations at public spaces around the Adelaide CBD, that are free to view as you walk from place to place. Tonight we will walk through the Botanical Gardens to see Night Visions. #IlluminateAdelaide
Next stop (before the Art Gallery) is a #coffee fix at Ember Specialty Coffee Lab. It's a new(ish) place - that I will doubtless return to. Trying a Jairo Arcila pink bourbon that is truly incredible: floral aromas of jasmine and frangipane, with ripe peach and maple syrup flavours. Outstanding.
A lot of the imagery, while a mix of human crafter and AI generation has the appearance of electron-microscopy. It's also remarkably calming and meditative. Would be a wild trip if you were pretty loaded. #IlluminateAdelaide
Digital Abyss is quite something: a mix of AI and human generated images, inspired by the ocean depths. That is also responsive to the observer's presence. Nice black-light effects (like posters I lusted after as a kid and a soundtrack like whale songs. #IlluminateAdelaide
Wednesday night, is カレー night. At least this week. Vegetable (potato, turnip, pumpkin and carrot) Japanese curry with rice; and steamed beans and brocolli, with yuzu koshu.
The technical term here is "getting their taints handed to them". #USAvBEL
I wish I'd known how to cook okonomiyaki when I was first living out of home. Cheap, easy and quite delicious. We had ours alongside steamed greens with yuzu, chili and sesame dressing.
Back home from the sake festival, having exercised admirable restraint. Restricted ourselves to buying one each of sake, umeshu and shochu; with plenty of pre-purchase sampling beforehand. More to add to the cellar...
Lunching up in the Yarra Valley today. Very bucolic views, despite the inclement weather.
A perfect afternoon for #GrassrootsFootball: cool (not cold), sunny and not a breath of wind. Played out a 1-all draw at home, walked home and can spend a few quiet minutes contemplating the garden of a winter's evening.
A most enjoyable evening, strolling through the illuminations in the #Melbourne Botanical Gardens. A mix of lit-up plantings, projections and lighting installations. And we get to do similarly at #illuminate in Adelaide in a few weeks. #LightScape
I have discovered the 'Naughty Corner' at Town Hall station. If you misbehave, you have to time-out there: like the sin bin.
Old mate rather feels the cold, now that he is very senior. So we've put a hot water bottle on his favourite day time seat to keep him warm. It also means he stays on the chair, rather than trying to constantly sit one one of our laps. At night time he likes to sleep on the bed, between us.
Not quite as cold as last Monday, but definite mid-winter vibes for everyone out #swimming early this morning.
Off to the theatre this evening, so it's dumplings at Shandong Mama first...
A brisk 3.5°C getting into the pool at 06:05 this morning. Thankfully the outdoor 50m pool was around 23°C and covered by a cloud of steam, making for a rather Rotorua like vibe. Get back home to low flying hot air balloons. #swimming #bloonwatch
Looking rather monochromatic, but delicious all the same: blackened fish and air fried potatoes. Basically, fish and chips. Opted for a simple salad accompaniment as Louisiana style green beans seemed a little too heavy for the evening.
A picture doesn't quite do justice, but a productive afternoon in the kitchen. Ended up with sumac roasted cauliflower and freekeh salad, chicken and fennel tray bake, felafel and labneh, and home made foccacia. Washed down with a high country chardonnay and some Tasmanian amphora roussane. Magic.
Fresh pomegranate arils, for the Shirazi salad. With cous cous and tagine (fresh from the freezer) - for which I'm thanking last week me. Perfect Sunday evening fare.
Also collected herbs and leaves for a Shirazi salad, which will also feature pomegranate from our own tree. And the dressing uses fresh lime juice - which we have an abundance of.
