French indie gamedev creating Vindica Secrets of Blood: a metroidvania about sacrifice & revolution 🪓⚒️🩸 Freelance Unity dev 🕹🖥️ Cnam-Enjmin crou 🎓🌸
I just finished making my own custom scripting system to makes Vindica's cutscenes It's connected to a tons of things for rendering, gameplay, character anims/behaviour, audio, ... and can manage conditions as well. That's gonna be so useful & fun! #vindica #metroidvania #gamedev #indiedev #unity

Hi! I'm a trans gal making Vindica Secrets of Blood, a metroidvania about sacrifice, factory sabotages and violent insurrection. It's for vengeful outcasts with existential dread that like cool movement mechanics & risk reward combat & it's inspired by titles like Iconoclasts, Celeste and Signalis.
I added more destructible elements this weekend :3 (after spending most of my time optimizing my custom lighting system and cable simulations that were slowing down performance so much)
game: knowing the risks, do you want to stall or do you try to end the encounters as quickly as possible? Knowing your strengths and how you tend to act, how much health are you willing to sacrifice to get new powers, and which ones will you favour?
Sneak peak at early game combat! With the addition of the blood drying mechanic, you will now have a limited time to concentrate the blood splatters into orbs that can be used for healing (or other powers later). This will feed into the sacrifice and risk-reward core aspect of the
Waking up with a lot of following notifications, I think it means Elon Musk fucked up so much again forcing ai gen again 💀 Welcome there! I'm on holidays without my computer but I will have cool stuff and announcements regarding my game next year :3 Merry Christmas and happy new year until then! 🎉
Btw this is the same area as this one you may have seen months ago. I feel like it's really starting to take shape now, slowly getting there 🥹

I did interior pixel art for Vindica and I love it, way less mind numbing autotiles, way more funny details❤️ #pixelart #metroidvania
I improved the game's skilltree! In Vindica's world, hematokinesis is the art of controling one's blood. To tap into this strength, you will have to sacrifice health by redirecting your blood flow into powerful hematokinetic abilities, ranging from key abilities to useful skills and upgrades.
I cleaned the new axe swings animations, and while i was at it, also improved the 2 axe swings i already got (and their charged variants), cause they weren't as cool as the new ones. Still, recency bias or not, my favorite is the swing up anim, with the downward pogo close second!
Btw for a 2D game with no skeletal animation I think you should manage your animator transitions in code. The nightmarish mess of transitions would have made me crazy before I got the new attacks working if I didn't reworked Vindica's animator in that way, here is the before & after:
The game got directional attacks and a pogo downward swing now! A bit reminiscent of Hollow Knight but I like it a lot! I aimed for a different feel for the attacks at the start with a swing charge system that can be chained with a whirl attack, but after many iterations I ended up somewhat close!
I've finally found a workflow that I like with enemy AIs so I'm working on combat again! What do you think? Can't wait to animate more stuff and try the implement the first boss fight using the new tools I did!
Entering the unsupervised Crabbles zone to get power back in (they messed up their cable management job)
Enemy reveal: the Cablecrabs! 🦀 These little crabs are electrician worker robots who repair cables in factories, but beware of electric shock if you find yourself in their path!! ⚡️ Also our revolutionary heroine can now blink and I reworked the sawmill music with an infiltration vibe!
Bloody history, cold industries: Vindica Secrets of Blood will get a Steam page next month! ⚙️🪓🩸 #screenshotsaturday #pixelart #gamedev #metroidvania
Game visuals have improved so much since last year, here have a look at the Sawmill, one of the first factories to sabotage in Vindica Secrets of Blood, that I want to feature in a demo this year! I'm very proud of this elevator btw 😌
I've been redesigning the main character lately (100 frames to redo was soooo long ;o;) and I'm working on the sawmill, one of the first areas of the game that I want to make a little demo of this year!
Wanted to take a break from the game so I did the trend too but in pixel art! #starterpack
Gosh it took me exactly 1011 days to get there but I finally nailed the art direction of my game, here is a in-game screenshot as well as the prep mock-up I did showing some character designs as well and Vindica not getting it's time to lock in
