Variously, "Overly ernest"; "Policy nerd"; "Award winning writer"; "Deliberately annoying prick"; "That fucking guy 🙄" Take your pick
When George Hook complained on Twitter that people were calling him a ghoul, and we all had to explain to him that he is a gowl, I put a reminder into my calendar. It always raises a smile for me when I see it.
The joys of poking around the second-hand bookshop. Sorry it didn't work out for you kids!
If you've an actual interest in Irish history that goes beyond the memes, see the below. Marriage was about property, breeding, and the obligations to pay for the rearing of children. There was plenty of cause for divorce, but it wasn't faultless - it was difficult for a woman without cause.
If you can't keep your nose out of other people's business, you can at least avoid incidentally supporting racists who spent their time threatening women who feed the homeless or vandalising the memorial of a poor Brazilian kid who was crushed by a truck only a few days before
They're a bunch of fascist cunts who are contractors and truckers not farmers who took advantage of the fuel crisis your government triggered by attacking Iran. They went on the piss in Dublin during the quiet part of the year, when it wouldn't cost them money, so they could abuse brown people.
I'm shocked that the young lad who was charging his phone on a €350k John Deere, with a custom three-axle silage trailer, using an engine that costs €50/hour in diesel isn't all that price sensitive about the price of diesel. Shocked!
When the regs finally came in for PPTs, I remember being naively concerned about how restrictive the rules were which meant that a lot of reasonable things were explicitly illegal (mono-scooters, electric skateboards, the Gardaí's own Segways etc.) But then no one bothered enforcing any rules
I think planning system changes are being made in a cac-handed way because they know projects will get thrown out by the courts in a couple of years so they'll claim credit for things they don't have to fund in the run up to the election and then blame others when it all falls apart afterwards
It's been going since it started (in 2009) the post below is from 2015. Kevin Finnegan from Castlecoote house is the organiser. More fool the punters who turn up to be the other side at this event, it's always centered on the right wingers (John Waters had a good run there for a few years too).
Much like Miller, if my Mekon wasn't so botoxed it would raise an eyebrow
I thought this was too good to be true, but no, the the hack writer that scribes the world seems to be the patron saint of hack writers
This is not a "judge a lawyer by their clients" thing. Fashy Jim here though was a counsel on the Fyffes Vs DCC case which involved the claim that Jim Flavin engaged in insider trading and committed a €83m fraud. That single case involved ~€20m (in 2006!) lawyers fees magill.ie/archive/bigg...
Pollard is a bit of a bollocks alright but you didn't need to do him like that.
If you look at their books, there's no provision within the group for financing remediation unless there's a definite plan to close a place down, they operate all plants as though they'll run for another 50 years. When the subsidiary goes down, we'll be on the hook www1.hkexnews.hk/listedco/lis...
Me, wondering what Some Navan Chekhov's 🤝 lad who thinks carpark handbrakes foreshadows are woke
There's nuance to it that's just not considered here (on BSky). And because poor old people die in heat waves it's treated as though it exposes a moral failing in counties where there is less AC. The assumption being that we won't use AC
Meath scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should
Absolutely mad that dublin city council managed to organise some free tobacco advertising for a children's event because they went with an AI design. (Also copaganda, also promoting driving fast to kids, also the noise and particulate pollution on the day) H/T to @e-m-forster.bsky.social
🎶One of these things is not like the others 🎶One of these things doesn't belong 🎶Can you tell which thing is not like the others 🎶By the time we finish our song?
It is easy to mock them for their takes, but this is public service posting at its finest. Not just wrong, but w̵̝͉̟̒̄͠r̶̖͒̃͝ȯ̸̳̲n̴̤̼̘͌ǵ̶̣͂! Wrong in ways that that we could be writing blogposts on it. Never delete! Never apologise! Just keep posting on through it! That's the energy that every message board needs
Batten down the hatches leaids! We're in for some amazing takes once the yanks come back online this afternoon
How do you protect people who are on the far side of 'Peace lines' like this? The reason why these fortifications are in place is because the 'Catholics' who live there were burnt out of their homes in 1968. And the people living there don't want them gone: www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025...
The Troubles, which began in 1968, started with the protests of the Housing Action Committees who were resisting the slums they were being forced to live in and the lack of schools for their children. They kept with the civil rights marching and protesting until they were being killed by the cops
They already do come after the Catholics. This is why the borders between Loyalist and Nationalist areas look like in Belfast. Loyalists don't have 'Catholic' neighbours because they'd already have terrorised them out. But property is cheap in these areas so poorer people move in there.
Oh god, it's real. But its also advertised as Candyfloss & Cheese & Onion, and now I'm wondering if that's all together www.musgravemarketplace.ie/Tayto-Candyf...
Consider the scenario with Niall Collins in the light of how Caolan talked to the NY Times regarding his tactics. Maybe he's using his skills for good (I don't blame UA for using him like they do), but I can't shake the feeling that it's about him more than the work
It sounds more like this is an edge-lord billionaire who is using AI as a smokescreen to hide behind now that he's experiencing the backlash. There were a lot of call outs to the Korean fash in that campaign, too many to simply blame it on AI www.koreatimes.co.kr/business/com...
And it's been a bad year for the group. Debt is up, costs are up, cost of financing debt up a lot, the group is now making a loss (and that doesn't include the consequences of losing the Jersey case about the German bank).
