“In addition to its Colorado assets, Highlands REIT owns properties in California, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Ohio.” As of February 2026:
These fires are so bad, y'all. Colorado once again has the worst air quality in the US—and one of the worst in the world. The Aspen Acres fire mandatory evacuation zone surrounds ADX Florence on THREE SIDES—and rather than evacuate the prisoners, they have them on fucking lockdown.
Most of the things he’s getting praised for 🗣️ *ARE A RESULT OF FIXING PROBLEMS OF HIS OWN MAKING* that were *only* mitigated or reversed 🗣️ *BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY PUSHED BACK*. Aren’t y’all tired?!
“Just get a city job; the pay/benefits are great!” City of Denver: “Must have a Master’s degree and be willing to do the work of 5 people. Pay is $20/hr with no benefits—but some of you will be eligible to participate in our retirement plan that invests in genocide! Vibrant Denver!” 😃
Even more striking when you look at it on the state level; e.g., CO also “locks up a higher percentage of its people than almost any democratic country on earth”—an ~829% increase since the 1970s. And ~65% of CO’s jail population is due to people’s inability to pay money bond—🗣️ SIXTY-FIVE PERCENT.
I got very lucky quite a few times. I often found a way to the front even when I couldn’t afford the seats, like it just worked out. Now you got me pulling out my collection lol. I haven’t looked at this in years. You definitely have to see them if you get the chance!
Friend just shared this email with me. It apparently went out to the entire student body at Victor Valley College. They sent this to a woman. A Black woman. A Black queer woman. (If any of my SoCal comrades would like screenshots of the unredacted version, hit me up and I’ll shoot it over.)
“What actually worked was housing and sustained services from community care workers—the very things the city could fund and offer proactively to people in need, without making liberty contingent on compliance.”
Sooo… intro to sociology… without the sociology. 🙄 Florida educators: ask yourselves—what would Michael Burawoy do? [added alt text to images, but it was truncated due to character limit so split into 3 images]
So under the “fire safety provisions adopted by the City and County of Denver”, landlords are now requiring the removal of… welcome mats—but valet trash is still forced on us. I guess trash cans littering the hallways don’t present a safety hazard bc emergencies only happen during biz hours. 🫠
“How do you all see the level of harm that we have witnessed for decades and decide all of this was a voting issue? This was a white supremacy issue and all your favorites have willingly participated in it. There is no ‘lesser evil’ there is only evil.”
Well okay, Tyler! Like I said, abolish reply guys—especially when they’re defending this shit.
💯 this reminds me of part of a paper I wrote last year on terrorism; it was in the context of Mohammed El-Kurd’s Perfect Victims, but it applies here too.
I’ve been obsessed with this man’s work since I was 12 and am so grateful I had the pleasure of meeting him once. He had the most peaceful, gentle presence and held my hand as we spoke—and I did not want to let it go. Hard to believe he’s been gone a whole year. We sure do miss you, legend. ☕️🍒🥧🦉🪵🌲
Just a reminder too that Denver Democratic Mayor Mike Johnston has always ordered DPD to threaten our nonwhite unhoused neighbors with 🧊—using fear to push them out of the city as part of his fascistic “Vibrant Denver” pet project.
“[…] one of the women was called to her counselor’s office to receive a disciplinary write up for her sunburn: ‘destruction of government property’.”
Just got this comment on one of my final projects, and it made me smile so hard. 😊
Ahaha! Well tbf his is technically Johnston with a *t*, but I often read it that way too and have always agreed with this sentiment. Oh and since you like to blow things up, I couldn’t resist 😆—doesn’t this boy throw out the whitest raised fist you’ve ever seen?
Here’s a breakdown of Denver’s Ballot Issue 2D. Sounds great, right? Well look again. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston is once again manipulating voters—this time into supporting the construction of his very own cop city.
I'm facilitating my Theory class tonight on Weber & Durkheim w/ a critique by Dr. Aldon Morris on why their work [& Marx's] is incomplete & quite frankly racist—as is our discipline So naturally I'm gonna teach about public sociology—rooted in Du Boisian emancipatory sociology—& Burawoy & Assata 😏
“Love is contraband in Hell, cause love is an acid that eats away bars. But you, me, and tomorrow hold hands and make vows that struggle will multiply. The hacksaw has two blades. The shotgun has two barrels. We are pregnant with freedom. We are a conspiracy.” —Assata Shakur
(I also want to credit the artist who painted the rock and made the photo part of the altar that goes around the tree so badly but can’t, so… for the two of you who follow me who’ll recognize these initials lol… we sure do love us some DRS.) xoxoxo
No, Senadora, we most definitely do not possibly “need to have a very serious conversation about opening up a new prison.” jfc
This is so good; really hope some of y’all will take the time to read it.
Denver right now—and this was followed by more cops, what looked to be a SWAT vehicle, an ambulance, then more cops.
