Most of these heads of garlic are MASSIVE (I included my hand in a picture for a size gauge). Last year we held out only the largest heads & used those as our planting cloves. Turns out if you plant cloves from massive garlic heads, you get mostly massive garlic heads. #Science 🌱
More garden updates: I did a test pull with one of the garlic heads 🧄 and they are ready! (Spade is in the picture for size perspective.) We'll harvest them tomorrow morning before it gets too hot. 🌱 W/ @efilnikufsin.bsky.social

Update: this was an excellent move. Here are the Yukon Gold potatoes I was able to dig up by hand, I'll go back and fork the bed for any strays, then get the garlic and the red potatoes later 🌱

And that doesn't even count the whole bed of Red Norlands still to be harvested!

Biggest garden surprise success story so far: growing lettuce in this usually completely neglected/overlooked small strip of dirt next to the house. Turns out the shade of the house lets it get huge cos it holds off bolting a bit longer. Giant fresh lettuce right by the back door? Yes please! 🌱
I love this time of year! 100% backyard ingredients in our dinner salad: eggs, both purple & orange carrots, pea pods, & a variety of salad greens (mainly Romaine & purple Romaine). We'll add croutons & Parmesan & dressing but this here is *all* from our backyard.🥰 🌱 W/ @efilnikufsin.bsky.social
