Spider-Buck
With great power comes great responsibility. That’s what Maddie had told him when she learned of his vigilante shenanigans. Buck snorted at that word. Shenanigans, such a weird saying. He knew it was true though, he did have a lot of power that sometimes made him wish he didn’t.
Sometimes, he just wanted to be his awkward Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley self and not have to worry about people find out who he was behind a mask. It was dangerous and still to this day he regrets burdening Maddie with this knowledge.
The knowledge that he puts his life on the line to save others even though his only reason on this earth was to do that. To save a brother he never truly knew and he failed but now? He wasn’t going to let the city he lived in go unprotected. New York had plenty of heroes and some were scattered about but LA, had no one until a fifteen-year-old boy broke some rules and got bitten by a fucking spider
But what truly made a hero a hero? Was it just fighting crime or caring about those who were dear to you? Or was it the selfless act of giving up one’s future dreams to save those around him? Sometimes, Buck still couldn’t answer even if the city now saw him as a hero

When Everything is Made to be Broken
Chapter 1:
The station was quieter these days. Not just in volume but in energy and the usual warmth Buck always found in the firehouse. There was still laughter, still the scent of burnt coffee and too strong cologne and someone’s overly toasted breakfast sandwich. Chim and Hen still bickered over trivia or little things that made everyone roll their eyes. There was still life.

But, there was a wall between Buck and everyone else. Invisible but impossible to ignore. The wall he had built brick by brick with court filings and resentment. One the others didn’t seem eager to tear down.

Buck could feel it in the way Chimney smiled at him, polite but too thin. In how Bobby kept conversation brief and clipped. Hen’s concerned looks as she glanced around but never made it into words. Then there was Eddie and how he barely looked at him unless they were on a call, and even then…it wasn’t the same

Eddie’s finger dragged along Buck’s cheek. Buck stared back, and it had to be the pain muddling his brain. He swore he saw Eddie’s gaze flick to his lips. Eddie’s head tilted closer to his, their foreheads touching. Buck held his breath, not trusting himself to even breathe the same air as Eddie.

Maddie,
I met someone.
His name’s Liam. He’s my age and is barely holding it together like the rest of us. But he makes me laugh, even when I feel like my lungs are going to explode and piss myself from laughing so hard. There were five Evans in training so I go by Buck while I finish my training. I’m hoping it doesn’t stick because the teasing is kind of annoying.
We’re both pretty sure one of the instructors is a demon in human skin. Not even a metaphor. The guy doesn’t blink. It’s creepy as hell.

Speaking of hell, B.U.D.S. is hell. That’s not an exaggeration. It’s cold, it’s relentless, and it never ends. We wake up to screaming and go to bed with ringing in our ears—if we even sleep at all. They break you down to nothing here. Strip you raw until you don’t even remember why you signed up in the first place.

But Liam… he gets it. He keeps pace with me during runs, yells at me when I start to fall behind, shares his last sip of water when mine’s gone. I didn’t expect to find someone like him here. Didn’t think anyone could see me in this place but he does.

There are moments I think about ringing that damn bell. You can quit anytime. Just three rings and it’s over.

But I won’t.

I’ve quit too many things in my life already. I’m not quitting this.

Maybe it will finally make mom and dad proud of me. I was a fuck-up, I know this and I want to be someone they could be proud of. That you can be proud of.

Buck Begins
Remembering the day that changed his life forever is a little difficult fo Buck. So, let’s go back to the past!
Navy SEAL Evan Buckley is in love with his fellow team member Liam. He’s fine, he knows Liam will never see him that way. When injured in combat Buck only has Maddie to lean on as he recovers and deals with the trauma of the IED that took his leg and those he considered family.

“What is going on in that head of yours?” Buck snapped his head up to the door to the sound of the voice. Eddie was leaning against the door frame, his arms crossed as he stared at Buck. Buck’s heart raced as those brown eyes stared at him.
“The afterlife. It sucks that I can’t help them all and this place is draining.”
Eddie took the seat next to the bed. “Of course you are. So, tell me about it.” God, Eddie never turned away from the weirdness that was Buck's life and Buck was so hopelessly in love with him.
Eddie leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees, his expression softening as he listened. “You’re not cursed, Buck. You’re... different, yeah, but that’s not a bad thing. You help people—living and dead. That’s not something everyone can do.”
Buck let out a shaky breath, his fingers gripping the edge of the hospital blanket. “Yeah, but what good is it if I can’t help them all? Sean’s out there, Eddie. He’s stuck, and he’s hurting. I can feel it every time I close my eyes. He’s not just haunting me—he’s begging me to do something. And I’m lying here, useless.”
Eddie’s jaw tightened, and for a moment, Buck thought he might argue. But instead, Eddie reached out, his hand resting on Buck’s arm. “You’re not useless,” Eddie said firmly. “You’re recovering. And when you’re ready, we’ll figure this out. Together.”
Buck blinked, surprised by the determination in Eddie’s voice. “We?”
