In entomology, a "kill jar" is a glass jar with an acetone-soaked cotton ball at the bottom used to quickly suffocate insects so they can be pinned and collected.

The Algorithmic Suffocation: When an ideologue puts a user on a massive, highly-subscribed blocklist, they are effectively dropping that user into a kill jar. The user doesn't physically disappear from Bluesky, but their voice is instantly suffocated across a huge portion of the network. They type out posts, but to thousands of people, they are invisible—static, silent, and pinned under glass.

The Dehumanizing Collection: The curator treats the list like a trophy room or a specimen collection. People on the list lose their humanity, their nuance, and their right to context. They are reduced to a static label: "The Blocked."

The Toxic Vapor: The "acetone" represents the ideological purity required by the list creator. The vapor fills the entire jar, meaning that even a minor disagreement or a slight deviation from the curator's worldview results in swift social asphyxiation. It creates an environment where everyone outside the jar keeps quiet out of fear of being dropped into the fumes next.

I wonder this because he didn't seem to push back very hard on Goldman's assertion that he lost the election and got kicked out of a coffeeshop due to "growing antisemitism in the Democratic Party" (as opposed to the reality which is that his unflinching support of Israel's war on Gaza got him a no vote and likely the coffeeshop boot too). For instance, Bernie Sanders (also Jewish) is warmly accepted in the same circles.

Instagram's tool to help you control your #algorithm shows it's teeth when you seek to suggest words like "talk therapy". It instantly interprets words like that as desperate cry for help and then actually suggests that you seek that help OUTSIDE #Meta. It's very telling when you get to see what kind of user a site will actually try to disengage with... Like for instance, people who think therapy or psychology are interesting subjects.
