Not a real doctor
@simonb
Lapsed-writer, ex-DJ, erstwhile larper, wants to be an academic again (is, in fact a real doctor) , old goth, larp designer, neurodiverse like light through a prism, poet before sunrise. Poster-child for burnout (Complex, Brooding, Challenging)
I spent most of the weekend inside InDesign, I am still muttering eldritch phrases about the function that AI tags all of the images automatically. I do it manually and then check for anything that is missing; nothing is missing because it is overflowing with slop. My work is harder now.
Half of the tickets for the re-run of the larp B-Movie have already gone in only a couple of weeks! If you want to join us next summer you might want to grab your place soon .... www.bmovie.org
Can you find the most elusive magic Hollywood has to offer and play your way to a Happy Ending? Join our movie-making adventure larp at B movie dot org
B Movie is a bittersweet love letter to 1950s Hollywood, to the stars who faded from public memory, and to the stories that never made it. Come and spend some time with us in this sci-fi dream of tinsel town and make a low budget film for real!
A stunt goes wrong during the filming of 'Invasion of the Atomic Space Witches' (1954) Here we have actress Tallulah Falls showing her emotional range as she flees a building that has exploded. (I have no idea why it exploded.)
|First in an occasional series of photos from the larp B Movie. This one showing a still from the film that the players actually shot.
The arrival of the first batch of photos for a larp is always exciting. (Even though the ones of me are terrible: "I look like The Queen, and she's dead!")
A few behind the scenes introductions from the larp, B Movie. (Although I missed the instruction to wave at the camera)
In June we are running a larp about making a movie. Specifically this movie:
Who on my feed shall I see at Knutpunkt in Gothenburg? If I do not know you already, do you want to say hello?
Yesterday we released the teasers for our pre-written characters for the larp B Movie, which is the story of a low budget film being made in Hollywood in 1954. We went through a design phase - identifying character archetypes and concetps - and then wrote a brief (300 word) Blurb about each one.
My typing speed this morning has reduced. I can’t work out why. Perhaps I am just tired?
In January 2009, in the days before Emjois had entered the mainstream (outside of Japan, obvs) , I invented the Real World Mood Icon. Here is a rare photo from that time.
The wonderful people at NotOnlyLarp in Spain are re-running L'Inconscience. Thematically Westworld meets Musketeers, but mainly a piece that interrogates humanity and free will.
We sometimes hack about with them to automate some of the more repetitative parts
The maximum word count for this article, including all references, footnotes, and the abstract is 7,000 words. This is one of those moments where I think real world Achievement badges should pop up
There are — quite correctly — two spaces after each full stop in the image below. (As a part of the SoMe around the larp B Movie we're releasing odd snippets of text like this; I am rather fond of this one.)
A photo taken at Conscience. It was a difficult larp for me to play but I learned so much from it. (There's pretty much a chapter on it in my thesis.) It contained one of the best and one of the worst scenes of my 40+ year larping career.
Happy Halloween. One day remaining for a chance to get a physical copy of the Scriptbook for the larp Gothic for only €22 www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/4...
One of the scenography twists from Gothic was replacing some of the props with others when the players were not looking. Everything here is edible, including the worms!
We've cut the price of the the script book for Gothic to approx €22 (that is €10 off) until November 1st. In order to get a copy though you have to perform a strange ritual. This involves being signed in to DriveThruRPG AND setting the sinister sigil that shows adult content.
There is only one week left to sign-up for the B Movie larp. Come and make movie magic with us next summer. www.bmovie.org
The KP Book 2026 needs you! We’re seeking contributions for the book that will accompany this year’s Knutpunkt conference, and we need your help! (KP is the annual Nordic larp gathering, this year it will be hosted in Sweden)
The @avalonlarpstudio.bsky.social crew are heading to Poland next month to meet up with our friends at @wonderlarp.bsky.social to start work on a new project for next year! We've actually been working on it since 2020!
In parallel we are looking for locations in Scandinavia (ideally Sweden) that would work as a 360° representation of a detention centre. Somewhere with a bleak institutional vibe. I'm not sure if we can find anywhere like the Gaol in the UK though
