Heading to the Heckington Show this weekend? I'll be there with Flood Waters Down – my Lincolnshire climate thriller set in the flooded Fens. Do come & say hello in the marketplace marquee if you're visiting! Signed copies & bookish chats! #HeckingtonShow #Lincolnshire #ClimateFiction #author
The drains of Lincolnshire (466). The Vernatts Drain (cut by hand in the 1630s) runs straight as a die for seven miles from Pode Hole through Spalding to the River Welland near Surfleet Seas End where its waters join the Rivers Welland & Glen to head out to the North Sea.
The drains of Lincolnshire (585). Anderby Main Drain just before sluice and tunnel, then out onto the big beach and into the North Sea.
The line between speculative fiction and reality is blurring. My debut novel #FloodWatersDown takes readers into the flooded Fens of eastern England - a page-turning near-future world grappling with climate devastation, AI enclaves and social divide. Out now. #ClimateRealism #Booksky #ClimateCrisis
I couldn't agree more. As a journalist reporting on climate science, I've come to believe we need both evidence & imagination. Science explains the risks. Fiction helps us experience the kind of world that might be coming. It's one of the reasons I wrote a climate thriller #FloodWatersDown.
A lovely day at @newarkbookfestival.bsky.social literature village in the historic marketplace. Lots of interest in my highly topical climate novel #FloodWatersDown - thank you to everyone who stopped by.
Every novel starts somewhere... (Pic based on an original photo by the author from a shop window display in Manitou Springs, Colorado). #Booksky #Author #Writing #Photography
Borrowed the image below from Lincs Libraries post on X... Looking forward to it - and ironically, given the story is set against a background of climate collapse, it's going to be another sweltering day. Perfect timing! 😄 #libraries #Spalding #author #Lincolnshire #Booksky
Flood Waters Down is an exciting, near-future thriller in a world undone by climate collapse & AI and the choices people make when old certainties disappear. Order through any UK bookshop supplied by Gardners or online - in both paperback & ebook. #ClimateFiction #EcoThriller #BookRecommendations
Lovely indie bookshop in Norwich. Sadly, not interested in stocking #FloodWatersDown despite it being set in eastern UK with super topical #ClimateChange & #AI themes. Thankfully a friend in the city ordered a copy from #Waterstones just down the road. Every new author has a story... #BookSky
Thanks to all who stopped by to chat about #FloodWatersDown at The Fictionary Faire, Stockport, on Sunday. Brilliant joint author session too exploring big issues of #AI & #climatechange in fiction with writer of #TheSentientOnes @authorbnugent.bsky.social #Booksky #LiteraryFestival #Authors
Great initiative from Three Kings Organic at Threekingham, Lincs. Very pleased to be part of their Literary Weekend in August along with a host of other authors. Such a brilliant food venue too!
A pleasure to give my first author talk for #FloodWatersDown to The Brass Windmill book club in Helpringham this afternoon. It was wonderful to meet so many enthusiastic readers & there were some excellent questions during the discussion afterwards. It was a great afternoon! #heatwave #Booksky
Back in #Spalding this Saturday along with a host of local artists & creatives at #Springfields for the #lincolnshiremakers market. Pick up a signed copy of Flood Waters Down - my new climate thriller set in a flooded future version of the South Lincolnshire Fens. #BookSky #ClimateFiction #author
An interesting question… my answer in the shape of the recently published Flood Waters Down.
I'll be at the Lincolnshire Flood Resilience Roadshow in Sleaford today. Lots of informative stands to browse and interesting talks at various times. Pop along anytime between 2pm and 7pm.
Yes @carolecadwalla.bsky.social I agree - the BBC Question Time panel of experts seems unbalanced. A wild card author like Brendan Nugent (The Sentient Ones) would offer a different and valuable perspective.
Poppies in the garden looking resplendent in the morning sunlight. All self-seeded.
With temps set to soar in UK this weekend there's no better Bank Holiday read than my new climate thriller 'Flood Waters Down'. A story of survival, resistance & moral reckoning, described as "richly descriptive, deftly complex & harrowingly convincing." Available from bookshops or online.
One of the pleasures of publishing a first novel is discovering how other people describe it. Huge thanks to my brilliant editor Vanessa Anderson @nightowlfreelance.bsky.social for this wonderful post about Flood Waters Down. “Climate fiction with teeth, tension and meaningful layers…” #Booksky
Great to meet up again with space entrepreneur Rick Tumlinson @rocketrick.bsky.social in Lisbon today at the European Space Economy Summit - he has an article in the current issue of ROOM Space Journal based on his new book Why Space?
Arrived in Lisbon by train this evening from the Algarve, ready for the European Space Economy Summit which starts tomorrow. A genuinely lovely surprise before departing the Luz Beach Apartments - finding this notice on the bookshelf in reception. Thanks so much Claire and Bethany!
It's always a pleasure to visit Lindum Books at the top of Steep Hill in Lincoln. This time it was extra special as I was able to sign copies of my newly published novel #FloodWatersDown #bookshop #author #climatefiction #flooding
Echoes many of the themes in my just published novel #FloodWatersDown mostly set in the near future landscapes of eastern England.
Anyone who thought today's phone-in on BBC Radio 5 Live @bbc5live.bsky.social on #AI disconcerting will find #TheSentientOnes by @authorbnugent.bsky.social of immense interest. It's a scary scenario of what happens when AI really does take over and humans lose control. Doesn't bear thinking about!
