St Giles Cripplegate (post-war survivor) and the Barbican (post-war creation) from a highwalk. St Giles Cripplegate has historic connections with literary locals and parts of the Barbican are named after them (Shakespeare Tower, Defoe House, Milton Court, Bunyan Court, etc). #london

The Horse and Groom, Shoreditch. The mural is the street artist Osch's interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. This being right next to the Shakespeare-era Curtain Theatre, where plays like Romeo and Juliet and Henry V were staged before the Globe was built. Just outside the City of London.
Kindertransport statues, Liverpool Street Station. Between 1938 and 1939, the Kindertransport rescued thousands of Jewish children from Germany and occupied Europe. This role is commemorated here. 'Suffer the little children.'
Westminster. Mother of Parliaments. For all its flaws, part of the arsenal of democracy.
Iraq & Afghanistan Memorial, London. This hits differently today. I opposed the Iraq War from the start + history is pretty clear on that. Afghanistan is more complicated but disagreement about policy != disrespect for those who served in good faith. Which makes todays rhetoric from POTUS esp grim.
Encountered some flags on my daily stroll. (Portugal, Saudi, France, Netherlands, Mexico, Iran, Belgium, England, South Korea, Uruguay, Qatar, Argentina, Slovakia, Ghana, Bolivia, USA, Croatia, Egypt visible for the fans (there are a few others behind the wall- I counted Brazil and Thailand also ))

After the storm. View over Bishopsgate and the East End, with some interesting cloud action up top. (Look closely and you can see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcelor... which was built for the Olympics, about 4.5 miles away).
As a 'thank you' for volunteers, the project coordinators graciously offered to send copies of a handful of these interesting and historic images to the participating volunteers. Mine arrived the other day and here they are! 3/
