With The Odyssey having a moment, it felt like time to revisit two of my favorite alters inspired by ancient Greece. Uril, the Miststalker as Achilles and K+T as Zeus+Ganymede. I recreated the original vessels, including their crack patterns and restorations. #mtgalters #magicthegathering

Folding MTG lore into art history using original illustration is a big lift...but looking back at this set makes me want to try it again! Su-Chi's tour: First, a top-hatted walk in Seurat, followed by a jam session in Picasso, letting out a scream w/ Munch, and pointing to the heavens in Da Vinci.
This shows the brush size—and that “blotter page” which is also key for protecting the card and getting a nice thin stroke
Most often size 0 brushes, sometimes 00–both much more size than single hair. The finesse comes from loading the paint with the right viscosity, and lots of practice in applying 😁 Even for pieces where a pen seems like the more obvious option, like this Indiana Jones “etching,” I prefer brush
My fav ways to paint 🎨: 1) art history + culture, fit to card flavor. I’m so proud of this Sol Ring for @shivambhatt.bsky.social 2) MTG game history, as in these painted “playtest” alters 3) border redesigns, as in this alter for @rebell.bsky.social 4) skill tests—this Welder’s flavor text 😅
