As an enjoyer of animation, I find this trend insulting. I know this isn't really a hot take but I just saw a poster for the new Moana movie and had to shout this into the void. (I liked Maleficient but it's telling a different story. So were the Alice in Wonderland ones.)
There are so many things from sci-fi that I would want but with the reality of our world, they would just be used to spy on me and advertise stuff. The idea of a robot pal that could do stuff for me was great when I was a kid...
