Just ran across an old Comcast bill from 2013. The monthly cost of “XFINITY TV” was $26.43 — after taxes and fees.
Boy, the first paragraph of this article is poorly-written. I understood it to mean that “fewer early heartbeats” is a “pattern” that’s bad. But apparently “early heartbeats” is the bad thing, so fewer is good.
Back in about 1988, I convinced him to give me his old Triumph TR3, which he bought new but was gathering dust in his garage. I fixed it up and drove it for years, and still have it. He used to drive it in local rallies, often with my mom. Here they are in the good old days.
Many of my early memories are from ski trips. Dad liked to ski (I never got the hang of it) and there were many family trips in the snow.
I've learned my dad, Robert “Buzz” Slye, passed away yesterday at 91. My parents separated when I was little so I’ve seen very little of him in my life, but our relationship was always fine, and I’ve always been very proud of his life-long work at the NASA Ames Research Center. From 20 years ago...
This icky Inc. article manages to laughably offer up both “solocreator” and “solopreneur” as credible words. I’ve unfortunately heard the latter before, but the former is a first for me. www.inc.com/nicole-ramir...
This mid-year report from Luminate makes some interesting assertions about compact discs. luminatedata.com/reports/2026...
Ha, was literally at the Statue of Liberty and its adjacent museum a week ago, so I just learned all about this!
It’s in the house. Yeah, I already drank some. By the way, Total Wine had both 750 ml and 700 ml bottles, much to my ongoing consternation.
This album can be found in vinyl clearance bins everywhere, often in sketchy condition. It was in my mom’s record collection and my sister and I loved listening to it as kids. I picked up this copy today for 50¢ and the vinyl is flat and dead quiet. It looks like it’s never been played. ✨
Mobile Fidelity put this SACD up for preorder 4 years and 4 months ago, and they finally produced and shipped it.
More mischief: On the left, our old bottle of Kummel (750 ml), and on the right, its new replacement (700 ml).
This book is such a beast, I rarely get it out and look through it. But it’s great, and an amazing thing it shows is how much was done with practical effects in the original trilogy. So much of this would be digital today.
It’s a drag that the Post has to publish garbage like this, but you gotta love the “Conversation summary”. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
Mom’s been gone almost 10 years now, but she raised my sister and me as a divorced, working woman with astonishing success. I think about that a lot, but most acutely on Mother’s Day.
Mischief in the beverage industry. On the right, a 750 ml bottle of Ferrand 1840 Cognac. On the left, a 700 ml bottle of the same — which I’m guessing is the new normal. Still, the smaller bottle costs a dollar more. 😵
Woodpeckers don’t show up very often in our backyard, and they’re skittish enough that it’s hard to get a picture when they do.
At the conclusion of my first year of teaching with the Type West program at @letterformarchive.org, the class of 2019 produced this picture – which I still think is amazing. typewest2019.com/about/
I forgot I took this photo in Berlin. One evening walking back from dinner I passed a storefront filled with stuff. It was pretty spectacular.
I am one of those Peninsula kids. Here’s an old Polaroid shot of the Star Wars bantha costume that was on display there for a time.
