Children of the 60s, 70s and 80s had a tinfoil wrapped vision of Utopia full of Acorn PCs, Sinclair C5s and laser discs. What happened? Did we never reach our potential or did we get there and discover we hated it?

It’s 2026. House prices are 8 times the average wage. Petrol is 158.95p per litre. Terry Ennui’s job has been replaced by AI. Cars don’t fly and we didn’t get to the Mars, in fact, we’ve only just been back to the moon. Terry tries not to think about the future too much.

It’s 1976. House prices are 4 times the average wage. Petrol is 17p per litre. Gerry Ennui, Terry’s dad, has a good job as a programmer. He’s in the union. He’s got a tidy little modern house and hope for the future. When his kid is his age, people will live on mars and cars will fly.

Terry asks: When was the last time someone offered up a utopian version of the future that felt reachable to you? Have we stopped believing?

Terry needs a futuristic look for the opening episode of season 2. But, Judith Hann isn’t about to tell them what tech they’ll be using in the future and Blue Peter haven’t done a futuristic fashion show in a while. What DOES the future look like?

Terry, Paul and Wendy are working on episode themes for season two of So Disappointed… Do *you* have any suggestions of people/things that have disappointed society?? We will NOT be giving time to people who have done/said horrific/inhuman things. They love attention, they’re not getting ours.

Terry, as you can see, is ecstatic that the Green Party won the by-election. It can feel like everything is a political priority, but, without a planet that can sustain us, nothing actually matters.
