While I enjoy "The Roots Come Alive Too: DYWM30 Live at Blue Note NYC, I didn't expect to prefer its version of "The Silent Treatment" (with Black Thought imitating Biggie singing) over the original. But here we are.
Messy weather including a tornado watch prompted me to pull out The Boogiemonsters' "Riders of the Storm" album. Got some negative stress too.
Awich's "Okinawan Wuman" is solid. Her "Wax on Wax" single is a standout track.
"Cabin in the Sky" the new album by De La Soul is out. So the most significant Hip-Hop news has nothing to do with open sellouts enabling anti-Black enemies, dysfunctional relationships, beef, or violence. The magic of 3 persists.

I took the babies to meet and honor legendary Civil Rights Movement attorney Fred Gray at the National Portrait Gallery. At 94 years old, he still remembers the dates and details of his meaningful life fighting for a better world.

Marlene Daut's "Awakening the Ashes: An Intellectual History of the Haitian Revolution" is the star of this year's Haitian history review. I'll read parts of other faves, but this one gets the full reread. Per tradition, I need to finish before having soup joumou on January 1st.
