My name's spelled Maria, but pronounced like Mariah. Freelance editor; day job in B2B cust srvc; poet & painter; multiple sclerosis. Profile pic by the amazing @emilypearsonart.bsky.social. Header photo by me, of Minneapolis, MN. Pronouns: She/her.
Today I found a photo from January of 1991 that proves that I pinned my jeans. If you don't know what this means, keep scrolling, you're better off missing this "fashion" trend lol
Er, this doesn't work with The Princess Bride. Even "man in hetero couple with money problems leaves for work, presumed dead; woman, griefstricken, agrees to marry douchebag, but man she loves isn't dead after all" is still DRAMA.
Definitely go next time you can. I for sure understand not going to a concert in 2022, though! Dessa was my last concert in 2020 before the pandemic started, too. I saw her at The Chapel in SF in Jan 2020.
The last saved celebrity is your therapist. (I took this photo and cropped it, so I think it counts.)
I'm not exactly sure how old my dresser is, but probably over 100yo (1880's at a guess). It was already old when my parents got it in the 1970's. But sitting on my dresser is this chunk of selenite that's probably exceedingly old. I can't use it per se, but I look at it every day.
I saw @dessadarling.bsky.social this evening and it was a fantastic show! Also it wasn't too hot & it was breezy, which makes a summer outdoor show just that much better. Mostly I was having too much fun to take photos, but here's a couple!
So far in my neighborhood of south Minneapolis, we've had rain & thunder & hail. My weather app says it's 90°F & sunny.
How did we not discuss this other intersection of our mutual interests when we were hanging out last summer? In any case, I also love poetry! I haven't read them yet - just picked up these 3 new-to-me books.
I have a German edition, but my practical German language knowledge doesn't work well for reading a fantasy, so it's been on my tbr since, er, 2001.
The aftermath. ( @firepile.bsky.social this made me think of you - see alt text)
Eating a surprise chocolate bunny that came my way... it looks like how my brain feels on Friday afternoon when I know I'll be working late
I'm guessing it must have been Jiffy Pop! I've only had it once while camping, but it was quite the novelty. It didn't pop very well, IIRC, but it was fun!
It's #IndieBookstoreDay & I went to The Irreverent Bookworm in Minneapolis. I got two books for my 3yo nibling (PENCIL by Hye-Eun Kim & TWIG by Aura Parker) a book on bees for my almost-8yo cousin, and two books for me (Arundhati Roy's memoir & a novel set in 1932 Berlin).
Hey #Minneapolis! Did you know there's plans for a #copcity in Whittier? It's touted as a "community safety and wellness center", but would include a gun range & chemical weapons training areas. This is completely unacceptable & unnecessary. Share widely - the images are OK to download & post.
Some days, I'm unreasonably annoyed at the 1962 oak paneling in my office, so I feel you. (I rent, so it stays like this.)
Today's hot take: Fuji apples are garbage, based on a sample size of this one I ate today, that's bland, weirdly acidic & slightly bitter, and just not apple-like. Clearly my time going to the Apple House at the U of M Landscape Arboretum has ruined me. Their apples are all amazing!
Deleted this post - the event tickets aren't available anymore, but the recommendation is still valid: if you need to get free tickets to attend any indoor event / rally, USE A BURNER EMAIL & do not use your government name. You should never (have to) register for a protest outdoors. Stay safe!
It's 21° in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway, & 31° in Utqiaġvik (northernmost US city) and -20 in Minneapolis right now, in case you're wondering where the Arctic weather is right now. The arctic weather is covering MN & other Canadian border states & so much of Canada. Stay warm, folks!
You know what? I love YOUR art! Guess what's in my upstairs hallway? The thumbnail only shows the very edge of it, but I think you'll know what it is...
For everyone commuting, caring for neighbors, and just trying to survive in Minnesota right now: stay warm! For those harming our residents & communities, lick a flagpole & keep wearing your ventilated sneakers.
I'm knitting as long as my hands allow (carpal tunnel) -- during work meetings or while listening to mostly Seanan McGuire audiobooks. It helps me feel like I'm doing something since I'll gift the scarves when done. I'm also doing puzzles, watching cozy murder mysteries, & making homemade soup.
I took this photo maybe a week ago... I also love the way the snow highlights the way tree branches are shaped. This is part of a massive silver maple, with the snow lit by my extra bright front porch light.
