Over 30 channels of commercial-free, human-curated radio programming focusing on great but non-mainstream music.
It does influence us, but not real-time. The music directors get a monthly report of the most loved and WTF'd tracks. But a lot of time, there aren't enough loves or WTF's to be statistically significant-- but we usually take it into account and if something gets a lot of WTFs think twice about it
"my dog passed away after a long illness. I read dogs prefer soft rock & reggae to other musical styles, so I tuned in to Left Coast 70s and Heavyweight Reggae (two I never listened to before) when I was with him in his final weeks. Thank you for making our last weeks together a little better" – Dan
"I just went through a cross-country move, 13 hours away from my family, and SomaFM has been like an old friend keeping me company along the way. Been enjoying Groove Salad Classic and Left Coast 70s. Keep doing y'all's thing - you're a bright light for so many of us -- el
We have a hardware issue on our SF-1033 channel that was keeping the live police audio from being mixed in. We have made a stop-gap repair for now, and it should be back to normal in the next 24 hours.
"DEFCON and Vaporwaves are highly underrated stations. Excellent operation you have over there. Thanks again" -- T
We get some strange promo emails: Suspect this is AI-tool driven, because no human would submit non-Holiday music to a station called "Christmas Rocks"
Since people often ask, "Do you take crypto?" the answer is yes, through our partner: www.every.org/somafm?donat...
Just got mansplained. Just because you choose not to do something does not mean you lack the skills. We chose to not have or require logins to listen to our radio. Companies like Cloudflare are gatekeeping the internet, and enshittifying the human experience. #rant #proveyoureahuman
A problem with our website "Old Player" not playing Groove Salad 2 has been fixed (we forgot to include a 128k MP3 stream, which the old player uses)
Care to share some details on how you get the HomePod to play a .pls from HA? We mostly use Bluesound players here, which integrate easily. Slowly working on a proper HA Integration for SomaFM
"Dear Elise:I have been listening to your curated music on somafm for two decades and time is nigh that I express my gratitude. You have introduced me to countless artists ... during my darkest days, your music made me feel less alone. My world, if not the world, is better because of you" - Dien
Some heavy downpours coming through SF this morning... (TL of the KPIX Salesforce Tower cams)
We were really excited a bit over a year ago to be at a panel with the Artemis II crew at SXSW.

So many crappy AI generated press releases about crappy AI generated music hitting our mailbox 😡
Please tell me the Nine Inch Nails after party is at DNA Lounge tonight. @dnalounge
If we've been quiet lately, that's because we've been busy dealing with a royalty audit from SoundExchange. There is a lot of annoying work that we have to do beyond the enjoyable part of finding and playing music for you!
Great record store find in Strasbourg, France: "L'Occase de l'Oncle Tom" Surprised at how many people were buying CDs, but they were mostly priced new from 7-8 Euros and had a great curated selection. Vinyl on the second floor as well, new and used.
Wow, the big corporations are all now bragging about all the data they’re tracking on you, as if they're doing you some kind of favor:
