Detective Hole (2026). If you can get over how the name reads and concentrate on the programme, it's fantastic Nordic Noir with some unexpected twists. Soundtrack is up there, Slayer, Nick Cave etc. Just try to ignore the slightly dodgy cover versions that appear intermittently #Netflix #TVSky

Threads (1984). The most bleak film I think I've ever seen. Someone should make Donald Trump watch it. Stars @reecedinsdale.bsky.social, but he gets away with being killed almost straightaway, rather than having to endure the horrors of the nuclear fallout #FilmSky

Legends (2026). So well written. Steve Coogan in a straight role, still managed to make me laugh in places. Characters written perfectly. Top soundtrack. My favourite - based on a true story. Full of outstanding actors, and Jackie Corkhill has a cameo! Devoured it #Netflix #TVSky

Which way?

Rock The Kasbah (2015). I disagree with reviews online, which seems to happen a lot. People seem to think this is culturally inappropriate, which it sort of is. But the basic premise is taken from a true story, so... The person concerned now lives in Australia for her own safety #FilmSky

Graffiti in white paint on an old brick bridge. It says, "Fuck ISSrael and the UK". The misspelling of Israel is on purpose to introduce the SS, or Waffen-SS, who were the military branch of the Nazis that carried out the holocaust in the Second World War. The UK is mentioned because our government is, shamefully, aiding and abetting Israel's genocide. There is a small, horizontal fluorescent pink line way over on the right of the picture, about a third of the way down.

The book Facebook didn't want people to read arrived today, with a little book voucher gift for me from @foxlanebooks.bsky.social for making a purchase in Independent Bookshop Week. It's always exciting to get their prettily wrapped books

Have A Good Trip: Adventures In Psychedelics (2020). This purports to be a documentary, but it's really some famous people retelling their experiences and advice for doing LSD. It made me really laugh and it's full of hot tips I hadn't thought about in decades, like covering mirrors #FilmSky

The Unbelievable Truth (1989). Captures small town hypocrisy brilliantly. It's slow moving, but there's never a moment where you don't feel like something is happening. Fantastic character eccentricity. Subtle comedy moments throughout. Screen debut for Edie Falco (Carmela Soprano) #FilmSky

De Rouille Et D'os/Rust and Bone (2012). I loved the way this movie was shot - scenes full of bursts of colour followed by shadowy, washed out rooms. The ending frustrated me because I was hoping Cotillard's character would realise she's worth more #FIlmSky

The Boroughs (2026). Love Denis O'Hare and Alfre Woodard. Clarke Peters as Art Daniels steals every scene he's in. And Geena Davis! Glad they didn't string it out. Perfect length. Duffer Brothers exec produce. Different enough to Stranger Things that it's not repetition #TVSky #Netflix

Play It Again, Sam (1972). Someone told me to watch this for the final scene. It is sort of worth the skin crawl of Woody Allen for that scene, so they were right. Without Diane Keaton and Jerry Lacy it would be a hard watch. Jerry Lacy's Bogart is to die for. Glad I saw it just for that #FilmSky

The Sixth Wicked Child by JD Barker (2019). Last book in the trilogy. Not as good as the other two, but still gripping. Well worth the read. I was sorry to be saying goodbye to some of the characters and couldn't wait to see the backs of others #BookSky 📚

Life by Keith Richards (2010). Some words hard to take, even though no malice was ever meant. NB, he's a product of his time. A brutally honest telling of his life. I was surprised there was little emotion attached to any of the stories, making it feel flat in places. Fantastic nevertheless

Project Hail Mary (2026). Turns out @bikeymikey70.bsky.social was right. It's a great film. Well worth the price of a ticket. Even the fact I found out in the opening credits it's an Amazon production couldn't ruin the whole film, but I'll be researching before I watch a movie from now on #FilmSky

Hail Caesar! (2016). A Coen Brothers' movie that incorporates a multitude of original props and costume designs from the 1950s in a fairly contemporary film. It made me wish they still built all the sets for films now. Original backdrops from Ben Hur in some scenes. Uplifting to behold #FilmSky

The Revenant (2015). Understand why some loved this film. The cinematography capturing the sweeping winter landscapes perfectly, even when littered with human tragedy. Story-wise it had nothing more to offer than most Westerns for the last 100 years, but nonetheless held my interest #FilmSky

Sleepers (1996). Has the feel of a movie made a decade earlier. Stellar cast. Said to be based in truth, although the authorities deny this - not surprising and doesn't hold much water when you consider the subject matter. Loses its way a little towards the end, but still outstanding #FilmSky

Hokum (2026). A woman screamed in the first five minutes of this movie and nervous laughter rippled through the audience. It's incredibly well told, lots of strands to keep it interesting, jump scares and well-written characters. We could be in a golden age of horror. Get it while you can #FilmSky

Trust Me The False Prophet (2026). Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt's backstory bears a remarkable resemblance to this real life horror story. This is incredibly well told and you spend the whole time desperately wanting Christine to triumph. It still amazes me that brainwashing works so completely #DocuSky

She is the brave woman who, along with her person, plans and carries out an intricate operation to set a group of women and children free from a man who keeps them in modern slavery as well a sex trafficking ring by telling them he's their prophet.
