Dubious dolmen at Site hommage de Laval-Pradel… in front of a train of trucks emerging from a mine and a convoy of WW2 period vehicles, commemorating the history of the area, this dolmen is atypical of those in the region and is not marked on the map. #tombtuesday
Nearby, with the sounds from the nearby Dinopark drifting though the air, the second little dolmen sits on the park of the Aven Marzal cave. #prehistory #megalithic #megalith #standingstone #tombtuesday @the.stone.club @megalithic.bsky.social
Situated near Bidon, above the Gorge de l’Ardeche, the Dolmen de Champvermeil is one of the largest in the department. #tombtuesday #dolmen #ardeche @stoneclub.bsky.social @megalithic.bsky.social
Thank you Jarvis Cocker for playing the PPYO on BBC 6 Music!
The new Primitive Percussion Youth Orchestra album is out today! It’s performed by 7-10 year olds and traces the journey of Todmorden’s Gabble Ratchets. Weird, atmospheric drones, drums and piano. Www.forged-river.com #folklore #childrensmusic #teachingmusic #ks2music #todmorden #calderdale
Almost all of these listens were on my paper round in 1988-89 when it was the only tape that lived in my Walkman. (My friend Tim filled the tape with the first half of an INXS album that I never listened to).
The gabble ratchets CDs have arrived and they look great! It’s also a bit scary because the PPYO isn’t funded or paid for by the kids who attend, so we need to sell a few! Hope you can check it out! spaceship.bandcamp.com/album/gabble... (Reposts etc also really appreciated!)
Increasing my vocabulary by reading children’s books from the 1950s. Bet that doesn’t happen with D*v*d W*ll*ams. Thank you, Rosemary Sutcliff for respecting your audience.
I’m really proud of this album that the kids I work with made. #folklore #folktales #childrensmusic #experimentalmusic
Excited for this in a few weeks time… #ppyo #primitivepercussionyouthorchestra #gabbleratchets #folklore
The Giant’s Grave, Kirkstanton, Cumbria. For some reason today is the first time I’ve been here, despite being in the area plenty of times… #standingstonesunday
My youth orchestra/workshop, the Primitive Percussion Youth Orchestra is going to be at @krankenhausfest.bsky.social this summer. This is great news! @seapowerband.bsky.social

41 years of Sleng Teng and also one day since I used the same model keyboard in a performance of Terry Riley’s ‘In C’ down the pub…
C’mon someone. I don’t post that much but it’s all good stuff…
The Menhir and Dolmen of Kerluir. Right in the heart of the Carnac landscape but rarely visited… #standingstonesunday
One of the stones at Stones (by Stones Road) near Todmorden. No one seems sure what these stones are or how long they’ve been there but the farmer definitely doesn’t like you climbing over the wall for a closer look… #standingstonesunday
It’s #bandcamp Friday tomorrow. All of these (and more) are still in stock. Also, my van has to go to the garage for some biggish work so tomorrow would be a great time to buy some stuff! Thanks! www.spaceship.bandcamp.com #folklore #folk #archaeology #stonecircles #timeteam #folkzine #zine
We went to Worsthorne Stone Circle. The weather was bleak and there’s not much to actually see there on the ground. There was a cremation excavated there in the 1880’s so it is legit. Saw our first snowdrops of spring on the walk back to the van… #stonecircle #burnley
Menhir du Champ de Caesar, Vendée, France. Photo from around 2003/4. It’s a big one. #standingstonesunday
Just realised there are nearly a thousand people following me on here. Thank you. Here I am despairing at the mess I’ve made in the ‘music room’… If you follow me, you might get to hear what it sounds like.
This just showed up on my Facebook thing…! @durotrigesdig.bsky.social
It’s mainly around Beeley in Derbyshire; the pub, Hob Hursts House (although the Church is actually in Castleton)
And also, some other archaeologists on t-shirts… forged-river.teemill.com
