I like to make things. I used to make things professionally, now I make things for fun. Theme parks, traveling abroad and video games really are the best.
I have mixed feelings about the new bride in the attic of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. She looks a lot better than the previous incarnation and I like the idea behind it, but I'm not sure if I'm onboard with the execution. It's very cartoon-like (especially the cat) and I don't like the candles.
When we visited Disneyland on Tuesday after the summer blackout, we wanted to be sure and take a tour of the Haunted Mansion before the holiday overlay subsumes it for the next four months.
I've been going to Disneyland for as long as I can remember, but yesterday was the first time I stepped inside the Plaza Inn restaurant at the hub near Tomorrowland. It was decent enough food, but the restaurant itself is beautiful.
You know you're slightly obsessed with an old ride when you've given yourself some choices. On Horizons, it was always undersea for me!
When I went to Tokyo Disneyland last year I picked up this figure of the bride from the Haunted Mansion. It didn't look great, as it was just translucent plastic. I wanted to see what it would look like painted, so I applied light washes until it ended up like this.
I finally got to meet the Parque a Parque crew from Barcelona on Sunday! They were a really great group of folks and the interview was a lot of fun. I got to share some stories about Seafari, which happened to be my first professional animation job (and a really amazing theme park ride.)
I'm being interviewed tomorrow by some theme park fans from Spain about a show I worked on in '92 called Seafari. (Sea Odyssey at Port Aventura in Barcelona.) I had to do a major cleanup and now you can see the couch in my nerd nest. I built a lot of the props on the wall.
It was an excellent Dungeons & Dragons gaming day. We almost died going up against a horde of the undead, but we didn't!
We took a short ride down to Mountain Point from Ketchikan to see some bald eagles and a bear. These eagles are pretty majestic. The bear wasn't that majestic but it was pretty neat to see.
Being on the ocean is incredible. Being on the ocean at sunset is awe inspiring.
Teresa got this shot of me last week on the Flying Dinosaur, an M&B flying coaster at Universal Japan. It reminded me a lot of Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain, although I think Flying Dinosaur is more fun. Of course M&B built that one too. Oh, I'm in the front car on the left.
My son wanted to go back to the Monster Hunters Bar for a full meal. It was delicious. They even had a server robot dressed as a felyne who giggled and talked to you while delivering your food. It was awesome!
170 mph across Japan from Osaka to Tokyo. The Shinkasen is pretty amazing.
Universal Osaka has a wonderful Frieren themed restaurant. The food was surprisingly good!
A friend of mine has been cleaning out his storage unit and came across one of my (very) old business cards from when I worked at Rhythm & Hues. This has the Jandy Place address, so it's probably circa '95 or '96. I do miss this place a lot.
We visited the Manjanggul Lava Cave yesterday, here on Jeju Island. I have never seen it rain inside a cave before, but I've also never visited a place during a typhoon. So there's that. The cave was beautiful.
Teresa signed my son and I up for a fishing trip in Jeju today. We caught 8 fish, and now a restaurant nearby is preparing them for lunch. She is awesome. (and gets seasick, so she didn't join us...)
The view of Mt. Fuji from the village of Oshinohakkai was beautiful today.
Without stating your age, post a movie that released when you turned 18
Yeah, Mysterious Island at Tokyo Disney Sea is my favorite land, anywhere.
My absolute all time favorite attraction is Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo Disney Sea.
Surprise visit to Tokyo Disney Sea! (Wasn't originally planning to go. But here we are!)
One of the coolest surprises today was discovering the Hunters Bar (a Monster Hunter themed restaurant) in Akihabara.
Today at Disneyland was crowded, lots of high school graduates there today waiting for grad night to start at DCA. A lot of fun, though!
I just read the graphic novel Hello Sunshine. It's a supernatural mystery by Keezy Young and it was fantastic! The horror was on point and all the kids were well written and felt authentic. The art and layout of the book was outstanding too. I couldn't put it down once I started, it's that good.
