So, hitbox testing is going...well. ...Jokes aside, since I know I'll be using this framework to make a game next month the animation stuff has kind of fallen off. Fun fact MechAnt here has like 8 additional test animations. I'll try and show those off later since he won't be in the game. #gamedev
GMTK Jam was this weekend! I didn't get to lead a game, but I was able to do some modeling and shaders for a friend's - Ducking the Rules. finite-reflection.itch.io/ducking-the-... A bunch of rules show up and you need to make sure you follow them! Or don't! Also, eat lots of bread. #GMTKJam
Okay, actual footage. Tons more anims for Ant Mech too. A Stage Entry, 2 types of jumps, landings, a walk cycle, and other unimplemented stuff like dashing, running, air attacks, etc. Also reimplemented the Blender shaders and threw together a test environment. CC @mechanicalblue.bsky.social
Okay, going for more of a "beat em up" styled animation set. Whipped up an Idle animation and a basic attack chain. I think the most interesting attack is the final strike, where the gun gets flipped ( #b3d #blender3d )
Okay, going into Mech Ant's animation set by styling it after Fighting Games, because *that sounds fun* Here's an animation set representing the sequences for a Character Select: Character Highlight, Highlight Loop, Character Selected: Selected Loop ( #b3d #blender3D #animation )
As a sneak preview, here's a test animation I did earlier while I was stress testing the rig a bit. If you look real close you can even see the finger pulling the trigger for a frame or two! (CC @mechanicalblue.bsky.social LOOK IT MOVES!)
Okay, could put more detail into this but you gotta be done at some point. Rig's done. I'd say it's a good, like, PS3-era 3D version of a fantastic design. Not 1-to-1 with MechanicalBlue's rendering but hey, that's how adaptation goes! Next, animations. Because I can't not. ( #blender3D #mecha )
Also I guess I finished up the decal application. There's all kinds of stuff etched all over the armor now. The thorax is a bit bigger than the concept art, but I wanted a blend between the cylinder thorax and the traditional thoraxes the non-rendered concepts had.
More progress on bug buddy. He now has a GUN Had to fill in a lot of details since the whole thing was kind of hidden in the design but I think the end result is fun and also *close enough* All that's left now is some rigging.
"Show me a cool physical game!" Yeah this one's special. Transformers Devastation only existed digitally for 2 years before it got delisted from EVERYTHING I found this one factory fresh in the wrapper last year for $30 It's not in the wrapper anymore. That's because I played it lol
More progress. Our ant soldier buddy is more or less fully modeled out with hands and a head and everything. Next up, a gun, then decals, then a nice rig And then I can ✨animate✨, which is my favorite part! Still just matcaps and vertex color shading so far
*Progress* Making this ant-jaw battalion soldier's helmet look just as cool in 3D is gonna take some workshopping. Backpack is cool as all get out though, even without any textures. Very proud of the opening at the bottom - it wasn't in the original art but it felt like it could fit! #blender3D
I should show WIPs more This is some fanart of a MechanicalBlue robot design! I've noticed even when I get to make stuff for fun I can't drop my lowpoly habits This is emissive! All of the shading is Vertex Colors and Matcaps, because...why not? It's fun lol ( #blender3d )
Oh y'all that "I made the logo in Blender" thing was not a joke Anyways we're tightening up the game balance, fixing the last few bugs, and prepping a build. Been a fun week, hopefully folks like this one. ( #gamejam #gamedev #blender3D )
Okay, systems systems systems The programmers are programming, the art is coming in, and it's all looking ✨fantastic✨ So much gets done so quick it's hard to remember to show it off ( #gamejam #godotengine)
Okay along with more animating I got to dive into Tech Art World today and figure out how to set up unlit palette-based roguelike dungeon darkness. No lights in the scene, you just kinda pick a palette and go. (Feat. various Lospec Palettes™️) ( #gamejam #godotengine #techart)
Day 3 and I've got more goobers for ya. Here's a little rabbity dude who is *super bouncy* and if you can't tell I'm having a great time lol ( #gamejam #blender3d )
I can't post every animation at once, but I can post some choice ones! Here's an animation for the Minotaur when he self-buffs Having less characters than Mystery Dungeon means I get to add more quality to each model!
Still chuggin along. We've got auto-tiling maps and inventories and all kinds of cool stuff - but it's all backend. So until then, check out these models I have been working on! Each one's already got a full set of animations and stuff. ( #gamedev #blender3D #gamejam)
Started a weeklong personal game jam with some friends. Taking another shot at making a Mystery Dungeon roguelike. As usual I got distracted with making art. But you play as a ✨KOBOLD✨ and it has recolors and the CUTEST Expressions look at it. it is adorable. ( #gamedev #blender3d )
Also, the wild bit? *It works on hardware!!* I technically coded it as a GB game, but here is a pic of it running on my old GBA via a flashcart. It's in GBC mode so it's using the default ZGE colors. This is a GBA I got as a kid, so seeing something I made running on it is a crazy moment for me.
Okay I got 2, but only because we were bad at games when we started them! We got better (and restarted them a bunch lol) 1. Project Ukemi, a old-school Platform Fighter 2. Access Browser, a 3D platformer that turns the internet into a game. I 3D art/anims, VFX and gameplay programming for both!
