The people wanted apple cake, and so they received apple cake (not pictured: a second apple cake).
Served greatest hits cakes of the year for dessert, the lemon Bundt and the chocolate roulade with vanilla ice cream and macerated strawberries. It’s hard to try new cakes when these two are so good!
Surgery was yesterday. After experiencing her exuberance, the vet opted for two layers of stitches + staples, and lots of drugs. Pup has been her sweet self, just acting a little drunk. I’m glad the surgery is done. No histopathology results yet, but no reason for pessimism. She’s getting extra love
Sweet pup and a woman in the vet waiting room were drawn to each other like magnets. The woman listened to a detailed report from the vet while on the floor with my dog, who tossed herself tummy up in her lap. We are here getting on the schedule for a “most likely benign” bump removal. 🤞

My kitchen smells like basil. My fingers smell like basil. There’s the promise of pesto in the air.
I have a cedar tree in my yard that has a hollow at the base, and when the light hits the west side of the tree, the opening on the south side is illuminated.
I wanted cake, so I made one. I rushed together a lemon blueberry loaf cake soaked with a lemon syrup. A friend taught me that wild blueberries are better for baking in terms of letting off less moisture and having a higher concentration of flavor, and that tip has never let me down. Yum.
Is some sugar ok for you? I avoid fake sugar - this one tastes good mixed with milk and doesn’t use fake sugar.
I was too busy when my girl was little to watch her every second, and so I had a sweater box filled with pine shavings. She’d scatter shavings when she had zoomies, but didn’t pee everywhere. I also had pine shavings in the yard. She still pees on them in the yard. My sister calls her “the hamster.”
I’ve developed a (deserved) reputation with my family for saying I’m going out for a quick walk, and then getting distracted along the way by a bug, or bird, or woodland creature.
Dancing and prancing. Nothing quite like first-thing-in-the-morning golden retriever enthusiasm.
My Mock Orange is a mean girl. Beautiful, smells lovely, but the cut flowers always wilt.
