Aspiring wargamer, one day I will find some time... #MiniaturePainting
Despite, erm, distractions, I have made progress on my dreadnought. A funny workflow on this one, as I don't trust the glue enough to hold the dread onto the base if I hold it upside down. bsky.app/profile/stal...
A week or so ago I was looking forward to finishing my current space marines project, but made the mistake of thinking about what I might do next. This was Not Sensible. On the plus side, this guy might finally get his shield and base finished after a _long_ delay.
The last marine of my force. And actually finished, since he doesn't need chapter insignia or a helmet stripe. Inspiration stolen from this rather better Reddit example: www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/... I wanted his skin properly ill-looking, I may have overdone that...
Medic! Technically Assault Marine with Chainsword / Brother Dimshade but I've always seen him as a fighty medic. White Dwarf 102 gave a Crimson Fists scheme with more blue than I expected, but that's no bad thing with my limited skill at painting white...
Assault guys done, giving me a squad of 5 Brothers in One Page Rules terms, if I squint a bit at the hand flamer guy I painted a while back... (counts as plasma pistol). But a major change of plan for the terminator from the start of this thread. #Oldhammer
Very much not ready for yesterday 🙁 Most disappointed to not have got the weapons on the dreadnought, but still progress towards the end goal.
I thought that I'd have progressed further than this by today... I need to at least assemble and undercoat the dreadnought by the end of tomorrow. Made somewhat more challenging as the left ("B") leg is a good millimetre shorter than the right 😐 I'm oddly bothered that one is a cream/blue hybrid!
Turns out that there are these to do (plus one guy and various bits that are in the stripping jar). #Oldhammer
Real life has kept me away from mini painting for ages, but I finally got the brushes out again this week. Finishing touches on some marine heavy weapons, although stuff like bases still to do 🤨 I need twice as many points on the table next weekend, so they'll be _very_ unfinished 😬
Somewhat predictably I lost, although my Land Raider company had a great run of dice rolls for most of the game. Having a building containing my devastator squad destroyed in the first shot of the game didn't help. 😬
Tried out Space Marine (1989 "epic" scale WH40k) at my local club on Friday. My "opponent" brought everything that was needed, so I could just turn up and play! Enjoyed the game, despite my standard smattering of daft mistakes, and plenty of beginner's ones... #Oldhammer
I also slightly upped my game on the gloves, thanks to a couple more Vallejo paints (Evil Red, Scarlet Red) to improve the darker shades.
Almost ready (standard disclaimer about insignia, bases and helmet stripes). I'll get these varnished and then they're usable on the table. The middle guy is a paint-over, not painted from fresh. You can't tell at tabletop distances but it was a lot less pleasant to work with. #RogueTrader
Because mid-Feb is a good time to do a "last year" recap... 🧐 My target was 48 minis for the year, so that's a pretty big miss, but at least I got paint on a few. Emphasises how much I'm motivated by upcoming games: 3rd edition chaos, then BOYL warbands, then One Page Rules at my local club.
Next up. I'm not sure how I acquired these, as my set of old second-hand beakies are dark blue plastic, and I only have a handful of these cream frames. I've had them since the late 1980s though, so maybe mail order sold individual frames? Either that or I must have split a set with a mate.
Progressing on a couple of the marines I started last month, plus another flamer, a heavy weapon guy and the big unit on the right. Blimey but the terminator armour is detailed 😬 Hopefully the end result will be worth it, but it won't be in time for last Friday (2nd deadline missed 😐)! #Oldhammer
One deodorant tank. It seems like just what I need to bulk out my Grimdark Future force next year, but I'm going to have to mod it a fair bit (and paint it better!) to be happy fielding it now. I'll be replacing the turret, so I need to find a plastic spoon somewhere!
Properly surprised to find these in a 30+ year old box of assorted junk earlier, along with my deodorant tank... Blister is still sealed, so they're probably the most valuable minis I own. Going to have to open it though!
Not finished, but painted enough to put on the table last night. I'm not sure if the melta gun guy will balance on anything but the flattest surface... #Oldhammer
He'll be table-ready-ish at least by tomorrow. I was trying to get away from the classic "power glove too heavy" look. Ideally there would be more of an angle in the right elbow but I wasn't going to try and mod that.
Last batch is going slowly, but I need to get one of them and this guy ready for Friday. The right arm was a pain to strip, I'm not sure what paint had been used on it but it had been there since 1988...
Back onto marines - heavier weapons this time. My plastic marines have had a rough life, with various bubbles from plastic cement and the odd lump carved out either by me or the old school friend that I bought them from many years ago. Hoping to get these complete by the end of the month... 😬
Colt Stoner got a yellow canister on his pack to tie him in with my Irn Bonce
These guys are done (finished yesterday but I wanted them varnished before I photographed them - shiny blues 🤨) Going with grey and greens as I want a vaguely coherent paramilitary look. I really need to work on my cloth technique, the middle guy was _so_ painful 😕
Back on to the space dwarfs. Need to get these finished so that I can return to painting marines by about Tuesday. #Oldhammer
But they did get to play with some goblins. Good learning experience, got two games in and hopefully more correctly follow the rules the second time around!
Finished, and leading a Grimdark Future: Firefight squad. Most frustrating point of the evening was logging in to print out my list and finding that missile launchers have gone up in value, and hence can no longer be used in Firefight. So had to unconvincingly "count as" a laser cannon! 😐
Calling him done, except for the base (and still no chapter insignia 😒). My skills are limited but I found a decent pic of Captain Crabb as a reference which helped! Some rough bits on the scratch-built hand flamer, e.g. the canister axis isn't parallel to the nozzle. But good enough for now.
