The Bow Stones (or Bowstones), likely 8th or 9th century cross shafts, on the moor above Disley. The lettering is post mediaeval. Snapshot taken when walking #TheGritstoneTrail, some years ago. #StandingStoneSunday #Cheshire

'The Bowstones

Two shafts of late Saxon crosses which were probably landmarks or boundary stones, as well as objects of devotion. The crossheads with interlace in the courtyard of Lyme Hall are likely to be from the Bowstones.'

Lyme Hall is a nearby National Trust property.

I'm deeply sorry to hear that Lou Koller has died. I know there isn't a big punk & hardcore scene on Bluesky, but he & #SickOfItAll mean so much to mean that I feel compelled to post here Thinking of Lou's family, in the SOIA & every sense, & hardcore worldwide. Ste More in the alt text.

I'm deeply sorry to hear that Lou Koller has died. Sick of It All have been important to me since first hearing their early records more than 30 year ago. Having many times since shared the family-like experience of their gigs, in the pit, on the stage, and chatting afterwards, Lou became a role model. He was unfailingly polite, friendly, encouraging and put in terrific performances night after night.

This photo was taken at a gig in Auckland, New Zealand, in February 2024. It was midweek, and a relatively small gig by their standards. I took an Aussie mate who liked rock music but knew nothing about hardcore. The band were awesome, even by their own high standards. The energy, togetherness and positivity lit up the night, and gripped my mate. He gets hardcore now, alright.

It is hard to take in what has happened since that beautiful night. I've followed events closely and FB4 joined thousands of others from around the world in making (in our case a very modest) contribution to the medical fundraiser. Lou's dignity throughout is an example to us all. He was one of the best, and will live forever in our hearts - and on our turntables.

Thinking of Lou's family, in the SOIA and every sense, and hardcore worldwide. Shucks.

The bed of an old lane across Blakemere Moss, in #DelamereForest, emerging from the lake due to the drought. The moss is an #IceAge kettle hole, drained for forestry in the early C19, then cleared and re-flooded in the 1990s. It is an other-worldly spot for a walk. #Cheshire #Walking

Preston Tower, near Ellingham, #Northumberland. A late 14th century tower house often known as a 'pele' (pronounced as in orange, not the Santos and Brazil legend), restored in the 19th century. GII listed, and well worth the short detour from the A1 to see. #TowerTuesday 📷 my own, 2009

A large stone tower. It looks reasonably intact at first glance, but closer examination of the windows reveals just sky beyond. It is a grey day, with clouds in the background, but a stream of sunlight illuminates the stonework, in a pleasing yellow.
