Wherever you walk in Rome, you will find a beautiful big church with impressive pieces of religious art. (Chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Gesù)
I spent 9-10 hours at 2 archives in Rome each day of this weak and had hardly time and energy to eat, also because of the extreme heat) Today I rewarded myself with this delicious lunch at a very good osteria (recommended by a Roman friend).
Research at the archive of the Italian army in Rome is going well (apart from the heat that is killing me). But my impression is that only few documents of the Uffio Stampa del Comando Supremo - responsible for propaganda and dealings with war correspondents during World War I - survive.

5 archives in 9 working days - that was a successful trip to Paris! I found important documents about #AvisWaterman, including the criminal investigation of the circumstances of her death, a report of the post-mortem examination of her corpse, and her original British passport. Incredibile find!
Yesterday, I went to the famous department store Le Printemps in Paris, on the Boulevard Haussmann. Le Grand Escalier, the staircase built 1922-24. is truly impressive. After being closed & used as emergency staircase since the 1980, it was reopened for the public in 2023 after extensive renovations
Last working day in Paris, and I had the privilege of visiting the beautiful reading room of the Manuscripts Department of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The main reading room, the Salle Ovale, is truly spectacular.
Successful day at the Archives nationales de France in Paris, searching for #AvisWaterman in the index cards of the French security services. Interestingly, this archive was confiscated in 1940 by Germans and then captured by the Soviets in 1945 in Germany. It was only retirned to France in 1994.
Last week's concert with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris in the breathtakingly beautiful Philharmonie de Paris, opened in 2015. The building look like a giant sculpture situated in a park in the 19th Arrondissement.
Today I went to the Cimetière parsisien de Thais, where #AvisWaterman was buried in 1939. I could not locate her grave (only section and row in the cemetery). But nearby I found the grave of #PaulCelan (1920-1970), one of the most important figures in German-language literature post-WW II ⚘️

In Paris for 2 weeks researching in various archives the final years of the life of the journalist #AvisWaterman (1882-1939). Last weekend I went on the Eiffel Tower, built during 1887-1889 as the centrepiece of the 1889 World's Fair. A fascinating piece of architecture and engineering!
