Last time I saw The Odyssey it was circa 1999 and my social studies teacher wheeled out a tv on a cart with a VCR and put on this timeless classic:
Renewable power generation recorded it's fastest-ever growth in 2024. ☀️Renewables were 31.7% of global electricity in 2024 📈New renewable generation grew by 9.8% (non-renewables grew by 1.4%) www.irena.org/Publications...
And the proportion of Canada's clean energy finance is... bad. As a percentage of the total, per capita, in absolute numbers, or compared to fossil finance. It's bad. #renewables #Climate #Energysky #cdnpoli
Canada's not trying to be a "Clean Energy Superpower". Not yet. New report from @oilchange.org shows Canada is the single worst country for public fossil fuel finance (in absolute numbers!) in G20. And among the lowest for #renewables #Climate #Energysky #cdnpoli oilchange.org/publications...
I had fun checking out a bunch of Canada’s World Cup games at cafés in Montreal the past few weeks. The diaspora for so many of the other teams is huge in Montreal, so it’s great vibes no matter who scores. Morocco fans were very hype today. More or less shut down the street watching on patio tvs
#Wind and #solar are the cheapest electricity, and now firm power from renewables is getting cheaper than fossils. Also, my new favourite link to drop when I get the inevitable "bUt wHaT aBoUt WhEn tHe sUn IsN't sHiNiNg?"comments. #renewables #climate #EnergySky www.irena.org/-/media/File...
Look the Prime Minister said the word “climate” apple.news/AM8oZ7efkRkC...
Underrated moment is the deployment of the solar array. 11.2kW doing some important work up there.
On the train to Ottawa. Thinking about the work of building Canada’s east-west electricity grid with renewables, good union jobs and Indigenous-owned projects⚡️

It’s so fucking gross that the first thought from these deranged losers is how dystopic scenes of war and bloodshed are a “massive opportunity” for Canada’s oil oligarchs to make a quick buck.
Enormous opportunity for marine renewables in Canada: 👩🏭115,000 jobs ⚡32GW+ by 2050 📈$12B to GDP from construction alone 🤝Projects can and should be Indigenous-led #cdnpoli #EnergySky #Offshore #Wind #Renewables See @nationalobserver.com piece here: www.nationalobserver.com/2026/02/18/n...
Spotify's new feature to share what you're listening to with friends will never go as hard as MSN Messenger's "What I'm Listening to" in 2005
Minister Steven Guilbeault resigns from federal cabinet over this today, and calls it a "serious mistake" to remove the Clean Electricity Regulations in his resignation letter. Couldn't agree more. #cdnpoli #climate #renewables #cleanelectricity #EnergySky montrealgazette.com/news/canada_...
Everything in this MOU is bad. Likely overlooked is the suspension of the Clean Electricity Regulations in Alberta (which will surely lead to them being removed everywhere) They would have saved 181 Mt of GHGs. Thousands of people fought for years to get these regs. Less than a year later. Gone.
🌊✊ Civil Society Rejects Northwest Coast Oil Pipeline 40+ organizations stand with Coastal First Nations to protect the north Pacific coast. Oil tankers put communities, wildlife, and our climate at risk. 💧 No consent. No plan. No pipeline. 📢 full statement below! #EnergySky #Climate #cdnpoli
❗I'm so excited to talk with Dr. David Suzuki, Melina Laboucan-Massimo and Jordyn Burnouf - three of my movement heroes. ⚡We'll be talking about all things renewable power, and how it can bring the benefits we need at the global scale, and at the local. 📅 Dec 4th - link below! #EnergySky
I know they were signalling deep public sector cuts, but damn. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
So much work to do as a country, and among our coalitions to re-focus on the bold, generational investments that Canada needs. An east-west grid based on #renewables will bring down the cost of energy, create thousands of jobs, support workers and Indigenous leadership. We'll keep pushing. 7/7
🚩A huge red flag is this mention of Canada amending the Canadian Environmental Protection Act - this will be to allow 'Equivalency Agreements' to last for more than 5 years. This smells strongly of a set-up to weaken the Clean Electricity Regulations and other climate regs. 5/x
Generally, there is little detail in "Climate Competitiveness Strategy" except gutting regulations, and signalling stronger industrial carbon pricing. On #electricity, they re-commit to NZ by 2050 (confirming the walk-back NZ by 2035), and re-commit to the CER. Which is better than cutting it. 4/x
On new measures for #renewables and Canada's east-west #electricity, there is very little detail in Budget 2025. Vague gestures toward "exploring initiatives", but nothing concrete yet on the bold, generational investments we need on renewables, transmission, Indigenous-led projects #cdnpoli 3/x
This budget is sure to be a doozy, with lots of bad, and hopefully some good. I'll be looking out for big investments in an east-west grid based on #renewables, including: 🗼$20B for transmission and grid upgrades 🏡$6.5B for efficiency 🤝$5B for Indigenous-led projects 👷♀️key labour supports #cdpoli
Proud to join 48 organizations across Canada calling on PM @mark-carney.bsky.social to reject giving public funds to Big Oil's Pathways Alliance Carbon Capture and Storage project. CCS is not nation-building, it is greenwashing. Read the joint letter: environmentaldefence.ca/report/joint...
I’m desperate for the day that the CBC is one of the outlets that stops taking oily money for ads from the lying liars in the fossil fuel industry. I get that our public broadcaster needs some extra cash in this trying time, but it’s ugly petrostate bullshit.
