I had the exact same last year, this one and then not far out of frame to the right there was another and it struggled all year, only got about 4' and might have had 4 blooms??

Oh they're so tiny 😍 I've only seen the standard kind (like this one in my yard, about 3-4" across)

I looked to see if it was like a subdivision or artists' commune or something and....no, not even close 💀 I assume it's people at the prison but also "special needs facility" in TN right next to a prison feels a little ominous

I went to a local native plant sale (Oklahoma z7) this weekend, got a nice little haul and planted most of them in my front flower bed 🌱 plant varieties best I can remember in the alt text #GardensHour

A flat box with about a dozen plants in varying sized plastic pots that I bought at a native plant sale today. Plants include echinachea, columbine, standing cypress, American Ginseng, guara, wooly Dutchman pipevine, chocolate flower, and a pawpaw tree. In the background there are rain barrels and a small red car in the driveway

A flower bed between my sidewalk and front porch, with a stone facing behind the bed on the front of the porch. The bed is freshly planted with young mostly native plants and mulched with red cedar. None of the plants are blooming yet. Planted from left to right: a trellis for sweet peas that haven't sprouted just yet, a yellow/pink 4 o'clocks, a red wild columbine, a plains coreopsis about to bloom (larger plant in the front, it was already in the bed), possibly a blue sage behind it? But I forgot tbh, a red standing cypress flower, an echinachea purpurea, a white guara, a rattlesnake master, more pink/yellow 4 o'clocks, a rough looking yellow false indigo that also barely survived last season's neglect, a dwarf red coneflower, a pink (pale?) echinacea, and a chocolate flower

I had a ton of different butterflies and some hummingbirds aaallll over my zinnias last year, including this incredible dude that was quite a bit bigger than my hand! Easily 6"+ wingspan. Plus the zinnias are tough as hell, super easy, and make great cutting flowers, 10/10 recommend for everyone lol

I think the one I'm nost excited for is the Woolly Dutchman's Pipevine, partly because it just looks weird and cool but mostly because it's the main host for the Blue Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly that I have tattooed on my leg 😅

Vining heart-shaped light green leaves with some weird looking flowers hanging below. The flowers are mostly yellow with a maroon spot, shaped kind of like a tobacco pipe, and they're hairy

A group of 6 blue pipevine swallowtail buttfiles. They have darker navy blue/purplish upper wings and more iridescent light blue lower wings, both with 2 rows of white dots lining the edges

Another pipevine swallowtail perched on a cluster of small white flowers, this one has it's wings folded up. On the underside the butterflies are a mix of gray and lighter blue areas with similar white spots to the upper side but then also orange spots ringed in black

Yes hahaha yes!

A 50 cell seed starting tray mostly filled with a mix of flowers (lavender, scabiosa, blanket flower, snapdrago, lobelia, chamomile, 4 o'clocks, and probably a few others) and herbs (basil, sage, savory), and i think some aetichokes?. The tray is on the top shelf of a 3-shelf with grow lights. In the edge of the pic out of focus you can see part of another tray half full of pepper and tomato seedlings

We have a neighborhood clan of them and always have at least one or two pairs nesting in the tree in our backyard 🥰 this was from last winter, and this dude was noticeably brighter than his siblings for some reason
