This is my 10th book, & it never fails--no matter how meticulously & how many times I proof the typeset pages, there will always be some typos caught only after the book is published. 😠 But hopefully the next sentence makes clear what I meant, even if it didn't make it from my brain to the keyboard!

The Avett Brothers had it right. We should indeed tell our children this about our past, in the hope of a better future.

This applies to the dust-up over Speaker Mike Johnson, Senator (and Rev. Dr.) @warnock.senate.gov, and their respective remarks about Matthew 25. One take on that text builds up that double love; one does not. And historical-critical appeals in and of themselves do not adjudicate the dust-up.
I love the cover the publisher’s marketing department designed for this book. The image is from a photograph that my son Timothy Harmon took at the beginning of “Where the Streets Have No Name” during the U2 show we saw at The Sphere in Las Vegas, explored in chapter 5 (ordering info in thread).

U2's Theological Imagination: A Guide for Pilgrims on the Way now has a typeset index! Working again through the proofs while indexing them has made me even more excited about getting this book out into the world--releasing later this year from Cascade Books. Stay tuned for further details.
I'm saddened my former SBC denominational home has made even more explicit their existing opposition to women as pastors, but not surprised. This was my experience in 1997. Ultraconservatives first needed to make sure no more seminary professors would teach that God calls women to pastoral ministry.

The first encyclical of Pope Leo XIV, "On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence," is so very good. It calls for much subsequent deep reading & reflection, but these pics of contents offer a sense of its theological/ethical framework (link to full encyclical in thread).
