The temporary closure was caused by the impact of Storm Claudia, which created an unexpected blockage in the system and meant the road had to be closed for safety. Thanks again for bearing with us.
The A555 has been closed and will remain closed overnight, Tuesday. We believe that damage caused by Storm Claudia, including tree fall, has resulted in a water channel being diverted, causing the road to flood. We're looking into this, and we will provide a further update tomorrow, Wednesday.
Carrington Road in Portwood is currently closed due to a sinkhole. An emergency response team is on the way to carry out an inspection, and GMP has closed the road for safety. Google Maps and Waze are showing the closure, but please avoid the area where possible. Further updates will follow.
Have your say on Stockport’s future! The draft Local Plan consultation is now open. It’s a legal document shaping how Stockport could develop in the years ahead – from homes & jobs to climate change, schools & green spaces. Read & share your views: orlo.uk/Uh9VH
