Stop AAPI Hate Action

Stop AAPI Hate and Stop AAPI Hate Action fight to stop racism and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
This past week, 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo of Texas and 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero of Maine were callously shot dead during separate traffic stops by ICE agents who were allegedly in unmarked vehicles. 🧵⬇️
As we celebrate #America250, we’re reflecting on what freedom looks like for AAPI communities: We deserve the freedom to live, work, and learn without being attacked by federal agents. We deserve the freedom to speak our languages and practice our religions without being racially profiled. 🧵⬇️
AAPIs are one of the fastest-growing voting populations in the country, yet they remain among the most overlooked by political campaigns. A small number of votes could determine who holds power in Congress — and AAPI voters can make the difference in competitive congressional districts nationwide.
On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Texas to announce the abolition of slavery, ordering freedom for 250,000+ enslaved Black people in the state. Today, Juneteenth is a celebration of the enduring strength of Black communities in the face of white supremacy and racial injustice. 🧵⬇️
The votes are in: Congress would rather waste tens of billions of our taxpayer dollars on ICE and Border Patrol than stand up to Trump and end his deadly attacks on immigrants. 🧵⬇️
We're proud to launch Stop AAPI Hate Action, our new political and advocacy arm dedicated to building AAPI political power and civic engagement. 🧵⬇️
As our co-founder @manjushakulkarni.bsky.social explains to @documentedny.bsky.social, ICE also poses existential threats to our communities. Out of fear for the future, many Asian families are giving up on their dreams to start a business or send their children to college.
#OnThisDay in 1882, Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act. For several decades, this racist policy restricted Chinese immigration and denied hundreds of thousands of Chinese people already in the U.S. their right to become American citizens. Sounds familiar? 🧵⬇️
From preparing our food to cleaning the clothes on our backs, working-class people are the heart of SF's Chinatown. This May Day, we rallied alongside @caasanfrancisco.bsky.social and other advocates to demand leaders invest in our communities — not ICE's terror campaign or Trump's violent wars.
Happy #AAPIHeritageMonth! At a time when our communities are under constant attack by Trump's authoritarian agenda, we're putting the spotlight this month on a critical part of our heritage: AAPI resistance. 🧵⬇️
🗓️ SAVE THE DATE: On May 1, thousands of everyday Americans are coming together for a national day of action known as May Day — and we want to see Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders take part in the resistance! 🧵⬇️
Did you know that 30% of Muslim adults in the U.S. are Asian, with roots that span across Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and other countries? Today, many of them are observing Eid al-Fitr, a celebration to mark the end of Ramadan.
Today, billions of people are celebrating the start of the Lunar New Year. From Tết celebrations in Vietnam to the Seollal festival in Korea, this holiday holds significant cultural meaning for Asian communities in the United States and around the world. 🧵⬇️
The government should be protecting survivors of abuse and persecution — not repeating the cycle of harm and trauma that they fought hard to escape from. ☎️ CA Residents: Contact your reps and ask them to demand ICE release Sithy Yi immediately! #SaveSithy @aapiequityalliance.bsky.social
In less than 3 weeks, federal immigration agents have unjustly killed two American citizens who were standing up for their immigrant neighbors and exercising their Constitutional right to protest. Go to StopAAPIHate.org/no-more-ice-funding to tell your senators to vote NO on giving ICE more funding.
💡 NEW REPORT: We surveyed Pacific Islander (PI) adults nationwide, and found that a shocking 47% of them have recently experienced racism or discrimination. Here are some of the key findings from our new report, “Unsettled Waters: Anti-Pacific Islander Hate Amid Ongoing Injustice.” ⬇️
It's been 2 weeks since ICE agents forcefully separated Yuanxin from his father Fei, and there are still no answers on the boy's location or if the family will be reunited. Their community gathered at Yuanxin's school to denounce ICE's horrific tactics and call for the family's immediate release. 🧵⬇️
For every $100 in foundation funding, AAPI communities receive only $0.34. This #GivingTuesday, you can help us change that with a donation to AAPI nonprofits like Stop AAPI Hate. Every gift makes a difference in our fight against racism and discrimination. ➡️ stopaapihate.org/support-us/
🚨 The Trump administration has announced that it will end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants from Myanmar in January 2026. This will leave nearly 4,000 people vulnerable to deportation amidst ongoing armed conflict and political instability in the country. 🧵⬇️
In California, Prop 50 — the Election Rigging Response Act — had the support of 72% of Asian voters, CNN reports. Prop 50 gives voters the power to counter Trump’s attempt to rig midterm election results in Texas and other states.
In Virginia, Black and Asian voters were pivotal to Democrat Abigail Spanberger’s win for the governor’s seat. ➡️ 80% of Asian Americans cast their ballots for Spanberger, according to CNN's exit poll.
In New York City, Asian voters showed the strongest support for Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani among all racial groups. Mamdani was backed by 65% of Asian voters, according to NBC exit polling. Support from South Asian voters was even higher — an overwhelming 87.2% according to @aaldef.bsky.social.
The unlawful abduction of Tae Heung “Will” Kim is over. Despite being a green card holder who has lived in the US since he was 5, Kim was trapped by federal agents at an airport this July and terrorized for days with no bed, sunlight, or access to a lawyer. He then spent months in ICE custody. 🧵⬇️
Racist slurs directed at the broader South Asian community also remained high during this time. From October 1 to November 11, the two most common anti-South Asian slurs — “p*ki,” “j**t,” and variations of them — showed up over 120,000 times.
Our analysis reveals that anti-Muslim and anti-South Asian slurs against Mamdani in these spaces persisted even after Election Day and peaked on November 9 — a 2,150% increase since October 1.
For South Asian and Muslim Americans nationwide, Zohran Mamdani's historic win for Mayor of New York City is a huge milestone in political representation. Sadly, it has also triggered a backlash of anti-South Asian hate and Islamophobia. Here’s what you need to know. ⬇️🧵
For everyday South Asian and Muslim Americans, this rise in bigoted rhetoric is not just online. Acts of verbal harassment, intimidation, and even threats of violence against South Asians are being reported to us, or policies that keep us safe, and hold bad actors accountable.
When Border Patrol agents pointed a gun at Illinois State Representative Hoan Huynh for trying to alert neighbors in his district about ICE's presence, he was reminded of the regime violence he fled as a young Vietnamese refugee.
While Trump assaults our freedoms — from ordering ICE to abduct our immigrant neighbors and deploying the National Guard in our streets, to enacting a government shutdown — more Americans are coming together to reject his attacks on our rights and our democracy.
Last weekend, nearly 7 million Americans joined together peacefully in cities across the nation for the second wave of #NoKings protests. Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and people from all cultures and walks of life marched in unity to protest Trump's authoritarian regime.
