Like...yup, still homophobic and repugnant. But the actual passage is essentially saying that it is bad to do things like make it illegal to be gay (and presumably trans, and anything else he thinks is bad) because it won't change who somebody is, and they now have no path to redemption.

I fully believe that homosexuality is a sin (just as much as I believe that sex outside marriage is a sin, or lying or stealing or murdering...) but we must remember that sinners are going to sin and keep sinning. Even if you could make them stop sinning on the outside, they still have an unregenerate heart and are worse than condemned to hell-because you've now also trapped them in legal bondage so they cannot see their need for a savior.

Storyline idea circa 2022, so obviously not something that could happen anymore.

So I've been making a possibly incorrect assumption that part of the Penta Oscuro heel turn is moving towards the idea that Penta might be retiring soon, and I've just come up with what would be, for me, the perfectly storyline from now until Penta retires.
Penta continues his singles run, winning matches, breaking arms, I don't even think I want him to have a title shot. The TNT title is too mid-card for him, and I don't know who I want to eventually beat Hangman, but it's not singles-run Pentagon.
Eventually Fenix recovers and comes back. He's uncomfortable about how dark Penta has gotten and with the addition of Erick Redbeard to Death Triangle in his absence, the stable is just a little too nasty for him now, but it's his brother, he wants to do his best so he tries to fit in.
Lucha Bros as a tag team on their own start a run, they're winning, working their way back up after Fenix has been out, but Fenix is getting visibly more uncomfortable with Penta's penchant for breaking arms. They have a few little arguments about it.
Young Bucks get the Tag belts, whether off Jurassic Express, or whoever they eventually drop to, but it's Bucks with the titles when Lucha Bros eventually get their shot. Give them a PPV main event again, because Lucha Bros vs Bucks is money under every circumstance. Lucha Bros win, they regain the tag belts. But they win because Penta flagrantly cheats and gets away with it, and then after they win, Penta breaks both their arms.

Fenix is incensed, this is not honourable, Penta is disgracing the family name. The Bucks demand a rematch, and as much to raise the stakes for a second PPV main event Bros vs Bucks match, as to try and force Penta's hand to play it straight, it's going to be a Masks vs Hair match
(Penta said in an interview last year that he would really like to do a masks vs hair match against the bucks)
Let them put on another absolute banger, and once again, Lucha Bros win, and retain the titles, by Penta cheating.
Fenix doesn't even stay for the hair cutting, maybe he can even spit at Penta's feet before giving the bucks a bow and a hug and leaving.
So the Lucha Bros are tag champs, but they're completely at odds now over how dark Penta has turned, he's full heel, and Fenix can't stand it.
Give them a title defense against another top team, whoever, FTR, Red Dragon, just somebody faintly dishonourable who aren't explicit babyfaces
Lucha Bros music goes, Fenix comes out. No Penta. He's left Fenix to twist in the wind, maybe to show him how he needs Penta to be successful.
Fenix goes it alone, does his best, but he can't beat a whole tag team by himself, he loses, Lucha Bros drop the tag belts
That's the very last straw, you don't abandon your family, who even are you anymore. Penta says Fenix went soft and doesn't have the guts anymore to do what needs to be done.
They come to actual blows for the first time in this whole story, brawling backstage until Penta does the absolutely unforgivable, and tries to pull Fenix's mask off.
Which sets up the piece de resistance. A Best 2 out of 3 falls mask vs mask match between Penta Oscuro and Rey Fenix
You could do a whole fucking PPV of just that match and sell it out in seconds. Give them 90 minutes.
Fenix gets the first fall, after a flurry of high flying maneuvers staggers Penta, and Fenix gets him with Fear Factor, his own finisher.

Penta laughs, he's loving seeing Fenix turn nasty, very 'yes yes join me' in the storytelling way only Penta can do in the ring. He's strutting around despite being down 1 fall. This is what he wants. Fenix to lose it.
Second fall proceeds, lots of back and forth, drag this one out, but not too many near falls. A surprise roll up from Fenix goes to 2, Penta hits a finisher, goes to 2, not many more. Let them have some room to breathe before Penta gets the 2nd fall.
-and breaks Fenix's arm, the same one he injured previously-
Now it's on, Fenix has his wing clipped, he tries to do some high flying stuff, he can't because of the arm, he has to frantically get out of submission moves on the bad arm, how could he possibly win now? The ref is distracted, Penta's back is turned, Fenix takes a deep breath, and winds up for a low blow, but stops himself. He's not going to sink to Penta's level and cheat, not when it's this important.

He spins Penta around, they stare down. And Penta reaches out to put his hand on Fenix's shoulder, and just when it looks like they might have a moment, Penta rips Fenix's mask off.

But Fenix (a trick Penta has done in the past) has planned for this and has another mask on under that one, something very Phoenix-rise-from-the-ashes-y

Penta is stunned, and Fenix takes the moment to throw some offense, roll him up, and pin him, for the 3rd fall and the win.

Let them lay there stunned and panting for a good minute while everybody loses their shit and comes to terms with what's about to happen. Penta goes from stunned to sad, he understands what he let happen to himself, how all of this is his own doing, and his brother was trying to save him and the only way to stop him was to STOP HIM. Penta begs forgiveness, Fenix instantly pulls him into a hug, I'm sure they're both crying by this point
And Penta, finally returned to himself, calmly, almost as a relief, takes off his mask.

When the film finally began shooting, Murphy threw himself into it. "I loved all the grooming. I loved dressing up. I loved looking beautiful," he says. "I suppose that's the energy of the character, that effervescence and irrepressibility and energy that carries her through life."
