I was arrested on the 25th of April, 1941. I
spent eight weeks in imprisonment. There the Gestapo had put me up against the wall, threatening me with a revolver to receive a statement from me. During the duration of the imprisonment I was beaten and kicked by the police. In the first week I slept on a wooden board that was pushed into the wall and locked during the daytime. After that I was put into a cell with five other men. The cell was full of lice and we squeezed them to death with our fingers.
Once a day we received soup and sometimes we were ordered to work. From this prison they transported us to the Alexanderplatz prison in Berlin. On the way we received two pieces of bread with margarine and rotten sausage. In Berlin the police were waiting for us with their dogs and we were unloaded.
Then we were
transferred into police cars and brought to the prison Alexanderplatz. The prison was so full that we had to sleep on the cement floor. Every day we got two slices of bread to eat. After approximately three days they called me into the prison office where they announced to me which KZ they intended to send me. I fainted after I received this information - they beat me until I regained
consciousness.
We were then brought by train to Sachsenhausen. In Sachsenhausen the S.S. was waiting for us and they greated us with beatings on the head and kicked us with their feet. We had to fall in, in rows of five

I am reading A lexicon of terror: Argentina and the legacies of torture by Marguerite Feitlowitz And this paragraph from the preface will haunt me throughout I fear.

"The past is a predator," goes an Argentine adage, And its one that many seem to believe. And yet that perception-like so much in Argentina — seems schizo-phrenic.
