3/4 I’m sure this time will look different than 11 years ago. For one, you won’t be able to walk across it in the evening. So, to celebrate this moment and one of Philadelphia’s defining pieces of architecture, I’m sharing some of the photos I took from my visit to the open bridge in 2015.

2/4 Before that, the last time the bridge was closed (or opened, depending on how you view it!) was in July of 2001 for its 75th anniversary. Tomorrow, for the Ben Franklin Bridge’s 100th anniversary, it will open again to pedestrians for a few short hours (10 AM to 2:30 PM).

1/4 For a few days at the end of September in 2015, the Ben Franklin Bridge was closed to motor vehicles. This took place because of Pope Francis’ historic visit, which saw many of Philly’s roadways closed to vehicular traffic and under high security.
