I am on an Eliza Reid(Canadian-born former first lady of Iceland)reading streak at the moment. Really enjoying this one and have just purchased her lastest (a memoir entitled The First Lady Next Door) and her debut murder mystery, Death on the Island. #BookSky
Happy Canada Day! Work commitments and a health hiccup have kept me from a big party, but I’m dressed for the day. 🇨🇦 It’s too hot too make butter tarts, so getting by with this little treat courtesy of my other half, by way of Rheo Thompson Candies in Stratford Ontario.
The #TCMParty crowd should get this reference, even if no one else does. Where is Cary Grant when you need him?! IYKYK
So lucky to have seen this riveting, heart stopping production last week. #theatre #oedipus #markstrong #lesleymanville
Timeline cleanser. A cheeky iris attempting to photobomb the peonies! #photography
I think the politicians are all walking a tightrope with this one. Carney’s statement was much as I expected. Measured and calling for a de-escalation.
I have donated to Helping Paws, Inc. in memory of Melissa and Mark Hortman. I would invite anyone reeling from their senseless deaths to consider doing the same. It is a very worthy program.
The U.S. has issued a travel warning for its citizens going to Canada. I can affirm that this is necessary. Dangerous dogs are roaming the streets, hostile crowds are gathering en masse, cobra chickens are occupying parks, and suspicious-looking plants are causing the innocent to sneeze. Take heed!
In celebration of the Feast of Annuciation, I present you with this one, including a cat! #arthistory #feastoftheannunciation #cats
Just arrived today from the Kyiv Independent. Wearing it proudly. #ukraine
Grim day for the figure skating community. All those young lives lost. Dick Button also died today. Remembering attending a 2017 seminar/exhibit featuring Dick, Dorothy Hamill, and JoJo Starbuck. Photos of Dick’s 1948 and 1952 Olympic gold medals. #figureskating
I have two on the go just now. One for a history book group and one because I needed a shift from current news.
#TilesonTuesday Fitzroy Tavern London. Originally a coffee house called The Queen Charlotte in 1822. Became a tavern in 1856.
Now that I know #SaturdaySwans is a thing, here is another scent bottle from the amazing Corning Museum of Glass.
Something to start your Saturday. A cameo Scent Bottle with Swan and Christmas Rose, Thomas Webb and Sons, probably Jules Barbe and Fridolin Kretschman Amblecote, England, about 1880-1890. Corning Museum of Glass #glassworks #perfume
The Populonia Bottle decorated with architectural landmarks in the Roman city of Baiae on the Bay of Naples. Circa 275-325. Likely made as a souvenir. It was found near the ancient city of Populonia, Italy, shortly before 1812. A shot I took of at the Corning Museum of Glass. #romanglass
Wishing a peaceful, sweet dream night to all from this side of the pond.
I just finished a guided reading of The Decameron through the British Institute of Florence.
My lovely neighbour just dropped off flowers and chocolates to all the women in my street as a token of love and support during this hard week.
