EVERY facet of accessibility is affected. From the complete removal of all funding of Microsoft's Gaming Accessibility Testing Services, to a question of general website accessibility, a legal requirement for institutions like the EU, it's not just games where disabled individuals may be impacted.

It’s not a question of whether each remaining development team cares about accessibility, but rather if they still have the resources to properly implement each feature and design. The former employee explained that games releasing within the next year are relatively finished in terms of accessibility testing and feature roadmaps, but there’s no certainty what the future of Xbox accessibility looks like beyond 2027. This is in large part due to cuts not only affecting the internal full-time Xbox accessibility team and individual studios’ employees, but also contractors who provided critical services like accessibility testing. They said that without a centralized accessibility support network, the “standards and prioritization frameworks that helped save teams time and energy” no longer exist.

If anything, I want everyone to read this paragraph. I know attending in person events is expensive for EVERYONE, but for people like me, the disability tax is egregious

In 2024, I applied to be a member of the press for Summer Game Fest, Geoff Keighley’s E3 alternative, and was approved. I spent two weeks looking for accessible airlines, hotels, taxi services, and even the quickest route to a nearby hospital for a potential worst-case scenario. After comparing prices for everything, I found the cheapest total available, which included not only my needs, but airfare, hotels, and a food budget for my caregivers. The grand total for a three-day event totaled approximately $7500.

In June, while everyone was celebrating Hot Geoff Summer, I had the immense privilege to travel to London, my first overseas trip! I was featured in the Design and Disability exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum! More importantly, I got to FINALLY visit Poppy in her home country!

When he flagged that his Xbox 360 controller was inaccessible, his brother, Hudson, adapted it using just an ice lolly stick and hot glue so he could play. Other frustrated users and small companies have responded similarly, creating a rich community of making and hacking. This is Grant's PS4 DualShock controller, customized for him by the company Evil Controllers.

Years ago, before the release of the PlayStation Access Controller, I commissioned a company to make me an accessible PS5 controller. I designed the placement of the buttons etc to suit my needs. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me! Why are they now selling this exact design on their website??
