Bennett & Terry Runté were the film's first writing team, and were followed by Dick Clement & Ian la Frenais, whose script signed the cast. Ed Solomon & Ryan Rowe were brought in for pre-shoot rewrites. Finally, Bennett & Runté returned for on-set revisions and post-production!
In concept art, both Mario and Luigi's "disco suits" were primarily blue and red, so it seems at one point they *were* trying to emulate the game design (at least Mario), but by shooting, they went another direction. Totally agree it would've been nice to see them in color-accurate attire!
