POST AN EMERGENCY CAT PIC

A cardboard house for cats is printed with a picture of a cat wearing a beautiful blue and grey kimono, seated with his legs crossed in front of a low table on which sits a piece of shrimp sushi. Where the face of the cat in the picture should be, there is a little round window, out of which peers Henry, a black and white short-haired tuxedo cat, who was 6 or 7 months old at the time. He is a kitten I fostered, along with his 3 brothers, and this is one of the pictures I got to see of him in his forever home. I still miss him, but I love that his family is so devoted to him they got him this wonderful house.

For those of us who might not recognize this reference, I want to share the joy and beauty of what I found upon searching, for it is indeed awesome all on its own, and even awesomer if you imagine it with lasers on its wings.

To give an idea of the scale, both the boy and his father are dwarfed by the statue; it is five or six times the height of the father, and depicts a loon siting on its haunches with its head back and wings outspread, on the point of hooting. It is not painted to be lifelike, it appears to be a textured silvery metal with a matte finish, looking almost like the craqueleur on an older painting or ceramic, or perhaps a mosaic.

Hah, that's what I say to my crows!

Photo from the walkway to my apartment looking out toward the street, ~ 8:30 a.m. About 15 crows are wandering around on the sidewalk and a little way up the walkway waiting for me to throw them some more peanuts (raw, in the shell). The green of the very sketchy lawn is visible on either side of the walkway, as well as some trees and bushes.

QED, MAGA fuckers. Yes, it's from 1961, maybe it looks a little cringey now, I don't know, but at the time it was a clear statement of love, peace, and unity among peoples.

Norman Rockwell cover for The Saturday Evening Post, "The Golden Rule", published in 1961. The painting depicts adults and children from different ethnic, racial, and religious groups, many with their heads bowed reverently, some with hands held as if in prayer. It's a beautiful image, clearly meant to convey the idea of unity and peace for all humanity. The words, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" are emblazoned in gold lettering in the lower center of the image.

What about them?

Publicity photo from the 1966 film "How to Steal a Million". The stars, Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, are shown on either side of the fictional statue that is the subject of the titular heist. They are apparently sitting at a table on which the statue stands, with one elbow each leaning on the table and propping up their respective heads. The photo is cropped so that they are visible from about the elbows up. Hepburn wears a black lace dress and white gloves, one of which is visible on the hand that props up her head; O'Toole wears a black dinner tuxedo over a white dress shirt, the cuff of which is similarly visible. They are looking directly at the camera, and are stunningly attractive. Behind them is a vivid red backdrop.

Post you from a different era.

Polaroid circa 1981 -- I am sitting in the stern of a rowboat on the lake in El Retiro, a park in Madrid. I'm holding the oars, and may even have been rowing, but I think this was mainly because my boyfriend wanted his hands free to take pictures of me. I'm wearing jeans, a black sweater, and a brown leather jacket. My head is thrown back and to the left side, and my eyes are closed. My hair was long and on the border between curly and wavy then, and in the photo it's a bit windblown. Behind me a monument of some sort is visible. The photo was taken in the late afternoon, and the combination of the gold-tinted light and the aging of the photo makes it look almost like a sepia tone. I would have been about 20.

This is a passage from "David Copperfield", by Charles Dickens, written 175 years ago. The dead character in question is a lawyer himself. It seems to be something that many, many people have always had difficulty with.

“My good Mr. Copperfield!” said Tiffey, laying his hand upon my arm, and shutting up both his eyes as he shook his head: “if you had been in the Commons as long as I have, you would know that there is no subject on which men are so inconsistent, and so little to be trusted.”

“Why, bless my soul, he made that very remark!” I replied persistently.

“I should call that almost final,” observed Tiffey. “My opinion is—no will.”

You missed out on the dreaminess of young Cat Stevens. Also a pretty good songwriter and musician, but at that age (teenager of the '70s) I was very into the dreaminess.
