um well, it says All-Gender bathrooms right on the sign, but yes, it welcomes nonbinary folks as well as ppl firmly into the binary. Also I just noticed the huge skylight right above the handwashing space. (A wheelchair attendant called the bathrooms "co-ed," so ... hm.)

Last night, I went to a paella fundraiser, where volunteer paella masters made *35* different paellas, outside, by the McKenzie River. It was beautiful, tasty, and a real Eugene-area experience. There was even one group of young paella-makers who had just renamed their vegan paella "the Jimothy."

Beautiful roaring river, lotta fir trees, tons of tables with paella woks on them, lotta mostly white people walking all over the lawn.

A longboat full of Vikings, promoting the new British Museum exhibition, was seen sailing past the Palace of Westminster yesterday (see page 16). Famously uncivilised, destructive and rapacious, with an almost insatiable appetite for rough sex and heavy drinking, the MPs nonetheless looked up for a bit to admire the vessel.

Went to Shotgun Creek, near Marcola (near Springfield), today. Nearly three mile loop almost killed my bad hip, but it was still real purty! County park FTW. #Oregon

Was that the extent of the controversy in Mr. Platner’s personal life or was there more to worry about? Campaign officials appeared not to know.

A top Platner adviser had promised a national Democratic strategist that they would not launch a campaign without completing a full investigation of Mr. Platner’s background. But, according to two people familiar with the campaign’s operations, no extensive effort was undertaken in one of the marquee races of the midterm cycle.

Instead, they conducted an expedited review, resulting in a short risk-assessment memo.

Mr. Platner’s campaign said that a research firm produced a vetting memo of nearly 50 pages that included searches of news reports, social media posts and public documents. They did not do exhaustive interviews with Mr. Platner.

Report from Yachats, Oregon (YAW-hawts, ORE-eh-gun): No basset hounds this year. Border collies aren't quite the same. BUT the Community Latinx had some great (not live - puffy costume) horses, and the umbrella drill team was great.

Grey ocean, some sand, a blacktop road and on it, many people with large rainbow and other umbrellas, most in costume (a George Washington, a woman in a half-way up frog suit, and more). Drill sergeant is in a long off-white military-imitation jacket and a rainbow cowboy hat. People line the road in chairs or stand to watch.

Yesterday, I tore out (bolted) lettuce & snap peas our friends planted while I was in the hospital; then I put in new lettuce, green bean, & basil starts, plus a replanted pepper start. I also uhhh bought two more pepper starts at the store today. (N00bs are going in other beds.) #gardening

Though differing from what we heard in recent meetings with EPD, we are relieved to hear from Chief Skinner that EPD plans to ensure an unaffiliated rally and march will be policed consistently with other unpermitted events.

What we heard from Chief Skinner - and what our own experience confirms, both as an organization and as part of a broader community with roots going back to Stonewall - is that laws are enforced unevenly.

Our organizers have been cited for using amplified sound on public sidewalks, while hate groups have been allowed to do so without interference. This has been and remains a core issue and the topic of much discussion between EPD and Eugene Pride for nearly a decade. As our interconnected organizers have observed first hand, we have been approached differently when considering unpermitted marches, like No Kings.

It is troubling that Chief Skinner cannot identify any factors contributing to the lack of trust from our community. Eugene Pride does not exist in a vacuum. Actions by EPD officers, including many recent scandals, have affected our relationship since the letter he read was written nearly a year ago. It is difficult to understand how these realities have not been acknowledged.

It is unfortunate that the situation had to escalate to prompt this response. Public scrutiny appears to be the only way to receive equal treatment. It remains to be seen if EPD’s interaction with the community this weekend can live up to values Chief Skinner hopes his officers will embody.

I went out to walk to the library, & I heard drums and chants, so I walked over to W. 11th Ave. I saw the VERY tail end of the unauthorized parade/march. I caught only one photo, with trans, progress pride, and Palestinian flags, & a banner saying "EPD HATES QUEERS."
