This smugness makes me want to explode. The poverty of the stimulus argument is w/r/t the typical amount of language a child is exposed to! But LLMs are exposed to an ludicrously enormous corpus of text! Explain English gapping or islands without UG of some sort! I don't see how it's possible!

i am very sorry you wasted your entire career on a promising but ultimately false theory, but, sorry, poverty of the stimulus is as wrong as phlogiston, and even though we absolutely should not have released it when we did, you can't just deny that it replicates competent language production.
