Prior to the campaign and specifically in January, during an open call for eligible applications for the 2026 CITS, we received 485 applications from 70 countries! We could offer only 10 spots during the first cohort from the applications but from aiming to raise £5,500 to get in 5 journalists... /2

The CIJ Lyra McKee bursary scheme was created in 2019 in memory and in honour of Lyra. Since then we trained 51 people from underrepresented backgrounds, who aspire to become journalists or who are at the very early stages of their journalism career. With huge success! /2

In a non-jury trial at Belfast Crown Court on July 3, 2026, the judge found three men not guilty of the 2019 murder of journalist Lyra McKee. The judgement came as a shock to the family. We knew Lyra very well and were devastated by her death. /1
