You know, I’m not an expert, but rewatching highlights from the Cabo Verde-Uruguay World Cup game I have to wonder what donor was awarded a no-bid contract to build that Uruguayan wall on the first CV goal.
Also that big plant with purple flowers that wasn’t there in 1980 and was starting to grow in 2008 is now a prime influencer photo spot in 2026.

Last night I watched the Flashing Lights, one of my favourite bands, reunite after 24 years for 2 shows partly to honour late bassist Henri Sangalang (with Sloan’s Chris Murphy filling in). It was moving and wonderful and bittersweet to hear them sound so good & the crowd still knew every word.

It was a real treat to see a 35mm screening of The Brother from Another Planet last night followed by a Q&A with John Sayles & Maggie Renzi. There are a lot more movies showing as part of this John Sayles retrospective at TIFF, so if you’re in Toronto don’t miss your chance!

LOLing at Tennis TV putting Nick Kyrgios front and centre in their grass season marketing. He’s played (and lost) one Tour-level match in the last calendar year and is 1-5 over the last 3 years.
To be fair, getting chips with my first name on them in a grocery store has almost made the expense of Toronto hosting the World Cup worth it.
Another reason? Seeing a car go around Toronto that apparently supports *both* Argentina and England, two countries that have clashed in one of football’s fiercest rivalries and one made even more hostile by a literal war.
What a dream! Chwalińska will play in the RG final on Saturday after having to qualify for the main draw! In the last 3 weeks, the 24-year-old has already won twice as much in prize money as she had in her entire career, and she’ll be seeded at Slams for the foreseeable future. Life-changing!
Don’t look now, but I noticed in the new releases this week that we’ve reached the xerox-of-xerox stage (and I can only read that album title as wishful thinking).
