It's used to fix a bug in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword that would make it impossible to progress in the game. Notably, it's one of the few applications that remains available to download from the Wii Shop Channel, which was otherwise discontinued on January 30, 2019.

The fact that they had to make an entire channel for this shows you that the Wii didn't exactly have the best online infrastructure, to say the least."
